Got an electrical question here. I have a NOS M151 Mutt heater setup I would like to use in my 3B. But it is 28 volts. Will it hurt it to only run 12 volts to it?

Nope, won't hurt it at all.
But
The fan will run very slowly so it won't move much air. The air will be nice and warm, but it won't blow very strongly on your cold toes. :)

Eddie, when dealing with DC vehicular current, lower voltage can normally be used to power up some higher voltage appliances; however, higher voltage cannot be used to power up some lower voltage appliances without the use of a resistor. As John points out, when lower voltage is used to power the higher rated appliances, peak performance usually cannot be achieved.

I.e., a 12 volt lamp bulb will light up with 6 or 8 volt input, but the lamp will not be as bright. In reverse, 12 volts applied to a 6 volt bulb will instantaneously melt (or burn out) the bulb's filament. Same thing will in many cases, burn out a blower motor. Engine starter motors are different however due to the heavier wiring used in the windings, thus a 6 volt starter motor can still be used on a 12 volt converted electrical system, the motor will simply spin over much faster.

I figured as much, just wanted to be sure. I used resitors on my 48 2A when I converted to 12v. I got this setup a few years back and intended to use it on a 73 Commando I was building since the factory heater is junk. That project is gone so figured I might as well incorperate it into my 3B. I have no clue what type of heater is in the 3B now, doubt it is original plus it screams when it is on and does not seem to move much air. Maybe I will fire it up with a battery and see what kind of air it moves and go from there.
