Hey guys, With all of you Dj3A followers of this site, it would be nice to bombard KaiserWilys.com with some of your nice pics to show what they are missing. No wonder they don't list Dj parts. All they have to show is two Surrey's, one Dispatcher full-top, and a few slide-door models in dis-repair. We can do better than that. Mine is in pieces now, but I can send in a couple of 'before' shots. Any takers on the suggestion? |

Sorry guys, I mis-spoke, and apologize for it. Sorry if anyone felt I was not giving theirs proper recognition, but I was anxious to try to develop more interest in the Dj models, and possible interest in parts being made available and ID'd as Dj's...by indication of how many projects are out there, and how cool they can be in any model. You know, Demand/Need creates Supply...I hate guessing what fits/works. I went to the KW album site for a review of what's there for Dj3A's, and found 4 Beautiful Surreys, 3 Very Nice Dispatchers (2 finished and one in Australia), and 3 Slide-door models (one original and complete). A slide-door (without doors or top) model has the cover pic of the Dj3A section. Interesting since there are more Surreys than anything. I have since submitted my 'before' pics of my Dispatcher as found. We can't all have pristine restorations like some of you do. I love my Dj (and its heritage and simplicity), more so as it gets closer to completion, and hope you all are proud of yours too. Fbill, if you look at the alblum and the MB category cover pic, you'll see your 'half door's twin'. Not all pictured are restorations. |

Hey Steve, no harm, no foul.....I see Colin, Glenn , and Bruce all have their jeeps in there. Mine isn't but I am not really a customer of the place either. Yet. Did you mean there were more Surrey pics on the blog than anything else. or there are more Surreys still out there than anything else? In my experience there are a TON of the sliding door models. a few random Convertible models, and just a very tiny number of Surreys. I feel pretty lucky to own three Surrey projects myself, tho one is just the tub and another went thru Katrina. I have heard production figures in the 1800 -3000 range but I will let one of our astute historians post the actual figure. Anyhow, it was fun to see a bunch of new pics I hadn't seen before.. Did you guys notice the person in the comments with no title looking for Surrey info? Good stuff, thanks! I liked the half door MB too. I am surprised more people didn't use half doors, nowadays people thing we are nuts with no doors on our jeeps. There is also a stretched DJ3A factory picture floating around that looks much like mine. I have been underneath mine a lot lately and I can assure everyone it is NOT the factory half door model. Someone was very inventive in saving a junk DJ3A, unfortunately they weren't too good at STOPPING the rust. Someday I hope to build a half door DJ3A more like the factory one and with no rot. But for an around town beater that is unique, it sure is fun. On an entirely different topic.. Any of my fellow DJ nuts going to Hudson this year for the reunion? |

Hey guys, I meant #Surreys and others relative to the alblum. I'm sure Colin has the overall numbers somewhere. FYI...I've got Mike from KW possibly interested to consider adding Dj's to the next catalog IF I can convince him of the need and the parts that will work on a Dj. Maybe Colin can indicate to KW how many Dj's he knows of out there for parts??? or tell me and I will pass it on. I've started sending pics of my original equipment with numbers clearly visible, along with 'guesses' I've already made that have worked out the same, like brake cylinders, grommets, seals, bezels, etc. Hopefully with the documented parts, and pics to show what is shared with the Cj's and SW's and Jeepsters too, we might get ID'd along with the popular models, as well as maybe one of our Dj's will make cover of the new catalog to advertise the addition of Dj's. Cover contest was in early November last year. I know there are some 'cover candidates' out there... Any and all support is appreciated. |

Hi Guys- The best numbers I have heard that are consistent about the number of Surreys is 1087 to 1100 total. What I don't know is if that includes the Galas that were done for export to Mexico, St. Thomas and Hawaii, but I think that number does include them and the Surreys that were sold in the continental USA. As for parts Surreys, that could be anybody's guess, since a good number of Surreys were repainted, put on 4WD chassis, converted to other types of vehicles or left to rust out in the wide open. I can account for 5 running Surreys in the metropolitan Phoenix area and one belonging to Senator McCain's wife Cindy that they keep up in the Sedona area(Used to belong to singer Alan Jackson). There could be more hiding in a backyard or garage here, but I am not aware of any more. Steve, if you want to forward the info on to Mike at KW, that I put in the above paragraph, please do. Anything we can do to further the Surrey/DJ3A models will help and to learn more of the interchangeability of parts with other Jeep models. Bruce has a pretty good handle on a lot of that. If we can get the name of the owner on the Ohio barn find, I will include that in my database as well. This one is 19058 and mine is 19170, so they are only 112 DJ3As apart, but I will have to check if I have any listed in between those numbers. |
