Well, I am in the process of building a wire harness from scratch and I have a Sparton turn signal switch with a small rubber wheel for signal cancellation and no true idea as to what the pin out of the plug is and need a little assistance. The switch was rebuilt after I salvaged it from a 1970ish Canada Post Dj of CJ 5 variety. I have done research on the 3b page but only come up with either a sig stat 4 wire or 7 wire design. I have also been over to the cj5 page and the info there was a little confusing and older. Have confirmed function with ohm meter but which wire is for what? Other details on this switch assembly are the inline plug is of 6 pin design with two rows of three pins each, similar to todays 4 pin trailer hook up design. Two pins are exposed and the remaining are encased in the rubber. The wire colors from the switch to plug is as follows. white, exposed pin black , encased orange, encased 2nd row brown , exposed pin yellow encased light blue, encased As always, any help is good help.

I'd never heard of these, so I decided to search 'em up to see what I could find out. I haven't found anything on a 6 wire version, but I did find some stuff on two different kinds. Keep in mind I don't know anything about these, its just what I found. Some info is at http://www.jeep-trucks.com/index.php?page=...=spartan&step=0 Blue: From brake light switch White: rear left Red: front left Black: 'L' flasher terminal Green: front right Orange: rear right Yellow : 'P' flasher terminal (Power, I think) Then I found this drawing at CJ3A page ![]() Red to Flasher +12 volts Brown - connects to brake switch. Feed +12 volts to other brake switch terminal Black - Front Right TS Yellow - Front Left TS Orange - Right rear turn and brake Blue - Left rear turn and brake Hopefully this will provide some help. |

Same diagram I have found at the same place. Also found that there is supposed to be complete diagrams at some website called c101.net but its a dud site and info is gone. Still This is helpful and hope someone has the pin out for this particular switch. |

THANKS Oldtime! now if I could only figure out the code for the oem headlight switch I picked up -5-6 years ago in Auburn Hills Mich Midwest Willys meet I will have the system beat. Switch in box reads group 15-12B switch and p/n is 942679. I made a code sheet from the marked terminals H A R & B and what where the detents matched , but I can't figure out my own code now as it was couple winters back I wrote it out. Anyone got a breakdown of the switch? Otherwise i'll just meter again! Want to set up the jeep with lights as todays cars, headlight, park working at same time. |

I have a Spartaon SCS-3R3 with only 4 wires coming out of the case. Black, White, Blue, and Orange. I am assuming the Blue and Orange run both the front and rear turn signals. RVS |

Have all the turn signal wiring figured out and the running lights but still a little confounded on the brake light interconnection to the signal switch. Here's the text diagram of what has been done. Power from fuse panel, yes fuse panel, to one side of brake switch, then with deployment of switch the power goes back to signal switch into brown wire. End result no brake lights. And before anyone states have I checked batt and fuse, yes and I do know how to work a VOM.( Least I should, profession is avionics. Having a bit of trouble confirming the color in the above picto gram/diagram as to the color of wire from brake switch corresponding to my switch. What have I got mispinned? |

Yipppeeee!!!!!!! My 3b electrical lighting system is now fully functional. Figured out the brake light combination and it works. Its great to see the ol machine taking another step back towards a new life! Now some of the purists may say that parking / signal and reverse lamps may not be original but its better to be safe on todays rat race roads. As for additional lights I am adding some storm /fog lights and a third LED brake lamp tucked up under the rear drawbar area . <_< Also wish I had paid more attention at the 2012 Willys reunion meet tech meet where mixing LED with incandescent was discussed. Anyone remember what the secret to wire in leds with incandecents? |

You can pretty much wire it according to the 7 wire switch. You will be missing a wire, but I think that the missing wire is a ground wire. The switch itself does not need a ground wire 'cause it doesn't do anything electrical except for 'decide' where to send a 12 volt signal. What might not work is the little indicator bulb in the unit itself if you don't have a good ground for the Sparton housing. If it doesn't work and you want it to you can scrape off some paint on the sparton clamp and the steering column in an area where it will be under the clamp so it won't show. To be extra sure you could put a small chard of metal (like the spiral pieces that wrap around your drill) between the clamp and housing where the paint was removed. Or you could connect a wire into the Sparton housing somewhere and connect the other end to ground. Remember that if your horn works then the steering column is grounded so there are plenty of places to choose from. |

The switch I have does not include the built in indicator bulb within the case, but does have the self cancelling wheel. The ideas of the past were pretty "nifty". Still its great to see a fully functioning lighting system. Still trying to figure out the methodology of the Boolean logic of one incandescent plus one led side marker light combo. I do know parallel cct is not the answer and series is next when time allows. Someone here must remember the tech talk of spring willys meet 2012, anyone? |

If you have two side light markers with one incandescent and one LED, then a parallel connection should work just fine.. I don't think you'd want to connect them in series. In parallel there are 12 volts ( and associated current) that will be consumed by each lamp, but in series that 12 volt drop will be split between the two lamps -- probably not evenly split, but neither one will be operating at its full potential. If the two were connected in series, my guess (without trying it) would be that the incandescent would be very dim and the LED at near full lumination. The reason being that LED's require very little voltage and current to fully illuminate -- and in order to connect it to 12 volts the LED unit has to have a lot of internal resistance so as to drop the voltage and current before it actually gets to the LED components. That would make the incandescent barely glow, if at all. And if either burns out they both stop working -- like the old, old Christmas tree lights. Now, if that configuration is somehow connected to the flasher unit I could see why you'd have some problems since most of the old flasher systems would not work properly if one of the indicators was burnt out. The flasher 'wants' a certain load to function properly. |
