When you go back to the tail pipe I hear excess sputtering. I suggest you do a complete electrical tune up according to the USM before you touch the carburetor adjustments. Also I hear it idling fast. I suggest that you set dwell with a timing light and meter if available then slow the idle speed down to 600 rpm if it will still run. |

The standard Willys tune-up begins with checking the battery condition and ends with adjustment of the carburetor. It is a series of tests that are progressively dependant upon the sequenced input. I don't recall that anyone has ever uploaded the complete sequence as it is presented in the Universal Service Manual. |

Nice looking Jeep, I'm sure you will get it running right. Is that a 6" suction nozzle in the back? |
Old retired fart living in Ione, WA. I have a 1964 CJ3B. Recently overhauled original motor, transmission and overdrive. 11" Bronco drum brakes on all 4. Needs a new coat of paint but that will have to wait till next summer, it's next summer and I'm working on that now UPS & FEDEX will continue to profit

Steve, without a doubt, that's one good looking five-four! Don't know what it is about that familiar deeper metallic green paint with black trim, but whatever it is, I dang sure like it! |

PS...noting that the rear top bow pockets are missing (from the outer corners), is your tub a repro from MD Juan, or were the pockets simply removed? |

Larry thanks , it is an original tub minus the bow brackets . I took them off during the first rebuild never replaced them (and I should have) still a lot of stuff to do ..I was thinking of painting the rims the same as the body ..what do you think? I also set the timing and points and do you think it sounds any better than before ? thanks Steve

I have a hard time getting on those two links but it does seem to be much improved. Lower RPM and less sputtering. |
