Has anyone used the Omix-ADA 17606.11 exhaust kit on their CJ3B? Looks like I need to replace my complete exhaust on my stock CJ3B and would like to know how this kit fits....or not! Thanks! |

There were two different types of "J" pipes that go from the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe. It used to be that one could only get the type that went under the cross member, then a few years later it was only the type that went over the cross member. Either type "J" pipe required a different exhaust pipe (pipe that goes from "J" pipe to muffler) Now, the last "J" pipe I got was the "over the crossmember" type, but I got with it the exhaust pipe from the "under the crossmember" type, and that didn't fit well. I made it work, but it wasn't a pretty install. The difference in the exhaust pipe seems to be in the bend that goes over the rear axle and the general angle of the pipe as it heads aft. If you think about it when the "J" pipe goes under the cross member it needs to head upwards at an angle that gives a faster climb since it has to get high enough for the final loop over the axle, and the "over" style doesn't have to do that. The lengths fo the two are slightly different as well. That is, the length of the exhaust pipe from the forward tip to the peak of the axle bend. Chances are that the order taker at your vendor won't know anything about this, so you are liable to get a hybrid setup depending on what they have in inventory. It could be just the vendor... I think that Crown made the under and Omni makes the over type. I'm not sure.... The two times I had to make this hybrid work required some cutting of pipe and some flex muffler pipe. It wasn't difficult, just a pain and multiple trips for fittings and clamps. The general formula for 1.75 inch muffler clamp inventory at any parts store around here is as folllows: let N equal the number of clamps required So the software coding formula for the inventory is... inventory on hand = N - 3 Time to get more inventory = today + 5 (working days) Number to be received when inventory arrives = 1 add one to number of days to get inventory loop |

I've had zero exposure to Omix Adda exhaust kits. The standard Willys CJ exhaust system is composed of 3 mandrel bent tubes plus the muffler and the manifold. The exhaust pipe is the longest tube which goes between the head pipe and the muffler. Expect to have trouble with virtually all pre-fabricated exhaust pipes. All exhaust pipes that I've seen have the bend going downward at the axle tube and not over/ around the axle tube. For that reason you may need to go to a muffler shop to get an exhaust pipe properly formed. Prefabricated head pipes are generally O.K. Also prefabricated tailpipes are generally O.K. |

there are 2 operations i do not perform on my vehicles, one being tires, and the other being exhaust. i took mine to my local exhaust shop, and it only cost me a little more than 200 dollars to go from the exhaust manifold to the back i also had him tuck it up in the back to prevent sticking it in a muddy bank if i happened to back into one. and not a squeak or rattle since, sometimes it is best to leave things to people who have all the right tools.

Go with the walker exhaust! Thick pipe and uses most likely American steel, not Chin Chow's recycled bean sprout can tops. And no I'm not being racist, just honest, sometimes USA is #1 right after Canada. Must Be #1 , who else would have thought to build the 3B. |
