Parked my 55 3B Fri nite, came out Sat and had the much discussed and dreaded 4-5" spot of oil under the bellhousing. First time that has happened as it has been relatively leak free since I got it back on the road several mo. ago. Unless it gets better I guess I'll be dropping the pan and replacing the seal. This is an unmolested motor and had never been apart until I reringed, new valves and rod bearings it several months ago so I'm guessing it has the original seal and I'm looking for some advice as to where to get a seal from and which one to put back in. I've read alot of write ups on this issue but was looking for the lastest advice from the group here, thanks for any input. |

I would recommend getting a copy of AERA TB-2025 . The wrong seal in an F-134 rear main seal replacement can get real expensive. Oil leaks, not so bad, locked up crankshaft, bad news. Good luck. |

I always use Fel-Pro for a rear main seal. I'm not in love with their F head rebuild gasket kit in general, but I always use the Fel-Pro for the rear main. |

From what I've been able to learn, there is a seal on ebay that the seller, Matt Fox aka "WCFR4", swears is the correct part for the F-134 - see ebay #290833361849. There is also one of the MV/Jeep parts dealers that claims to have the correct seal made exclusively for him. I can't recall if it's Ron Fitzpatrick, George Bizal or Peter DeBella - I may have to research the suvbject on the G503 site again. There have been a lot of problems evidently with the reproductions as of late. |

About two years ago I bought a new Felpro rear main seal and it was undersized. I also bought one od Matt Fox's seals and it was also too tight. I suggest that you locate a Victor Reintz JV687. See: http://z4.invisionfree.com/CJ3B_Bulletin_Board/ar/t3985.htm |

Thanks Oldtime, what a cluster, there doesn't seem to be one definitive answer for a realative simple issue. I have worked on a ton of old motors mostly in the 50s era and they pretty much all had the rope seal and I never had a problem with them. |

You can certainly install a rope type seal if you want. Remember to inspect... The condition of the seal journal may be in question. I think I have a couple pairs of the neoprene type seals. I'll check tonight. |
