I have two front turn signal lights that were acquired through Ebay couple years ago and now have had the opportunity to use them . When acquired they were single filament contacts and I changed them with new contacts to dual in order to satisfy todays requirements of running and turn signals. Now the situation is I did not realize that a standard 1157 bulb would not positively lock in the socket due to the offsetting of the bayonet pins on bulb as compared to the original socket. I was lucky and came across an old1158 bulb and didn't realize it was 6v and one filament was u/s but did positively lock in socket. Can't locate a 1158 in nearby autoparts stores at a decent price. I have thought of installing a voltage drop resistor for each element and thereby prolonging life of these bulbs. Easy to do but would prefer 12v bulbs as cheaper and more available. Wondering what I can substitute or is the 12v equivalent of the 1158?
Sidenote, Best reaction I got from the kid at the Canadian Tire parts counter when I asked for these bulbs was," Is this for like , uuuuuh, vacuum cleaner or lawn tractor?", along with his blank stare. Needless to say no sale.

I have tried researching this issue but Google doesn't provide the answer, so I turn to you guys.

This #1176 miniature indicator lamp has a dual C-6 filament, operating at 12.8 volts and 14 volts respectively. The average life of the first filament is 300 hours; the average life of the second filament is 1,500 hours. It has a DC Bayonet base. It is typically used as a tail light, turn signal light, or brake light in domestic cars.

Ian, I stumbled upon this. the co. name is Eiko ...or type in 1000 bulbs.com maybe it will help? Steve

Thanks Steve! I checked it out and the price is phenomenal ! Now only if the cross border shipping wasn't so much! Care to split a 10 pack at my expense if you could send and receive at your end?

I put a dual post pigtail in my front running lights, and just filed the higher locking post off of the dual filament bulb. I just had to make sure the correct filament was aligned with the correct post. The bulb still stays locked in the socket with one post.

Hey Guys, I just went through this in the last couple month's with the 49 jeepster that I'm building! I found a site called "automotive lite bulbs and lite bulb sockets"! Just type that into google search, and it has a wealth of bulb information!! :)
Here's the lowdown on the bulbs.
12v 1157 pins offset
1156 pins staight across
6v 1154 pins offset
1158 pins straight across

That sure helped me a lot!!
I could'nt get this info on yesterday because I got called away from the computer.
I just took those numbers to a couple different parts stores like napa, and they came up with some at decent prices!! They just had to look around!!

Binthere and Bryan,
Tried the method of filing down the opposing pin but no luck. Binthere, I think the website you possibly were admiring was bulb world.com. Good info but lacks the true cross ref I need.

:D Bryan, Thanks!
The 1176 is the perfect fitting bulb. Working well on both the park and turn signal elements and was inexpensive from my industrial supplier.

Sorry Ian, my bad!! When I saw your post today, I went back to my site, and found that I did not read the whole thing on the 1156, and that it was only a single element bulb!! Wow, how dumb was that!!
I'm glad you found the right one :)
