Hi Any suggestions/advice to repair or upgrade steering in 1966 model cj3b right hand drive would be welcome. Problem with excessive steering wheel turn before the wheels respond.
Thanks Stevelofts

Steve,
A lot of info has been posted on steering fixes. Searching "death wobble" will turn up a long list.

I feel the best way to begin is to determine what is worn.

Your steering knuckles on the axle are best tested with wheels off the ground. The service manual details how to check the wheel/pivot bearings.

The rest of the steering components can be checked with the wheels on the ground. With a helper to turn the steering wheel back and forth within the "slack" band, you can look at all the components from tie rod back to steering box.

That will help you identify what is worn and what is still serviceable. Staying on top of lubing the grease fittings will extend these parts.

Upgrading anything before knowing what is worn may cost a lot without fixing the problem.

G'day Steve,

I'm a fellow right hook 3B'er, have just finished restoring a '58 and have put together a bit of original RHD info (plus what I've done) here on the BB. I hope this link will work, not very good at linking threads...

if not, just search my posts, was back in June/July under Stock RHD Info. Also feel free to PM/email, will give you whatever help I can.

Regards

I should add that I agree with what Rus is saying; irrespective of whether L or R hand drive, the fundamentals of removing excess play in the steering system remain the same.

Happy to help though if you've got issues with what's there or how it goes together, parts etc.
