Please make two choices. Make one choice for looks and another choice concerning function. Additional comments are welcomed. First off, let me say to each his own. That being said, if they had gone with that hideous sloped hood design rather than the one they did, I'd own a low hood jeep or just my early Bronco!!

i asked dave at ewillys what his favorite willys was and he said the 3a. sentimental reasons. i don't like the 3a but he does. to each his own. i had a 59 3b in high school my dad bought for me and also i had a friend with a scout. i thought the scout was a piece of crap and my willys would run around it in the woods. he had ugly girls running with him in that scout and i had babes in my willys. but go to Austin TX and the scouts are what these people like and pay big bucks for. he later got a toyota FJ-40 and to be honest i think that jeep is nicer than the 3b, better looking and you can put it on the highway and go to watkins glen from philadelphia for a F-1 GP race. couldn't do that with the 3b. you could but it was a LONG, long ride. OT, not sure how much highway riding you do but god bless you. i like air bags on the highway. the sloped hood, looks nice, don't care what anybody says. but it is about what you grew up with. period. if my 3b in high school had a sloped hood, that is what i would be collecting now. with 4 Nice cj3b's now and another one on the way, i think i got a valid opinion. |

One of the fellas on the "mahindra forum" has recently done this conversion, Probably gives a little better forward visibility, but the rib running down the side of the hood makes it obvious it is a cut down CJ3 hood. My opinion- a flat sided hood would look better, but I doubt if such a thing exists- if not- you could easily make one out of sheet steel or fibreglass. stephen |

The link seems to be working now. Note how the original slope hood has the side ribs. |

A vote for the functionality of the sloped hood was cast by the Cournil Jeep Tractor company in France, when they stopped using CJ-3B bodies and started building their own bodies -- see the drawings at http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/World/CournilFrance.html They also moved the driver forward -- not sure how they did that. They were using diesel engines. Then there's the Lycoming JB-1 at http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Finds/Find...aftStarter.html which apparently raised the cowl on a CJ-3A to create the sloped hood.
