I am prepping my frame for sand blasting and will be installing a saginaw steering as I rebuild. My question, do most members remove the bellcrank hardware off the front cross member when installing a saginaw steering system? Thanks Vance |

I did not remove it from my crossmember when I did the conversion. It doesnt interfere with anything but it now looks out of place and I wish I had removed it before I put everything back together. Oz![]()

I didn't remove it from the cross member either. I just replaced the entire cross member. I guess my take would be that if there is no intent to be able to return the vehicle to a correct factory restoration, which is probably the case with mostl vehicles that get a Saginaw conversion, there really isn't a good reason for packing around useless extra weight. I would remove it. |

I fully agree with previous posts. The "intermediate steering shaft" connects the steering column tio the Saginaw box. Consider that you may need to replace or modify the front crossmember in case it interferes with the intermediate steering shaft. Ideally the Saginaw conversion should be done prior to any frame painting. Are you planning on installing manual Saginaw and D-225 or what ? I suggest you fill in your "signature" with know or planned features for your CJ. |
