I refer mainly to Australian owners of Willys jeep with hurricane engine. I recently fitted an ex Holden carburettor (Stromberg) to my cj3b but am uncertain as to what vintage carby and appropriate jets etc. is best. At first I fitted the appropriate parts of an EH Holden Carby, but found that performance is down - hesitates on acceleration etc. So decided to fit parts of an early model Holden carby and the performance is much better. But Do I need a early model Holden Carby body i.e. smaller venturi type as in an FC Holden? Look forward to any replies. Cheers, Graham. |

In general a replacement carburetor should be taken from an engine having similar discplacement. Ideally the substituted discplacement should be within 5% of the target application. This roughly means 134 cubic inches plus or minus 7 cubic inches. |

Actually, that makes a lot of sense. The EH Holden (which I based the original carby parts on) was 149 cu.in., which going on your calculations, puts things out of range, hence the slacker results that I got. I'm in the process of ordering carby parts to suit around the FC model. That should do the trick. Many thanks for your reply. Cheers, Graham. |

I don't have much technical information on the Strombergs. Seems that Studebaker Corporation was one of the last manufacturers using the Strombergs here in the U.S.A. Studebaker went out of production in 1964. |
