Drive Over the Pali; First Real Drive "On" My Jeep

Took my 3B for it's first real drive. I've been seriously delinquent in getting it registered (I've been slow to trouble shoot the problems), but the C&C pushed me out the door. I had to drive to Town to get it weighed and had no problems over the mountains. The F134 drove like a champ, but I'm pretty sure I'll be rebuilding the steering linkage and suspension soon (a little scary over 35 mph). I still have a couple of hoops to jump through to finish up the paperwork and then you'll be seeing me out an about more often.

How's it ehrawn,
Really nice Willys. You've got the perfect Island Cruiser.
I've followed your story here on CJ3B & commend your efforts to fix things yourself. Feels really good to do that & it gives you an understanding of what your 3B is all about. You'll find the folks here on the CJ3B Page really great people with a wealth of knowledge & information that goes far beyond any manuals you might find.
Boy does that photo bring back memories! The Pali lookout has one of the most spectacular views
of the windward side of Oahu. I grew up on Oahu in the 50s & 60s & drove that road all the time. VWs & Jeeps climb up steady & fly down on the way home. Quite a thrill going back down to Kailua & Kaneohe! I can remember going on the "Old Pali" road through Nuannu to the lookout & down that old curvy1-1/4 lane road below the Pali. It got a little scary when the rain & high tradewinds were blowing! Sometimes they would close the whole thing down & we'd have to go all the way around Waimanalo Makapuu to town.
We'll now you can take your time, enjoy the sunny days & find the back road adventures out here in the Islands.
Congratulations on your Willys find.
Aloha from the Big Island

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Jax. I though I knew what I was doing, buying an old Jeep. Boy was I wrong. I've got nothing but respect for the knowledge on this board.

I know just what you mean. I've learned a lot from my brother Dave as well as the advice and information on the 3B page. At least the technology is less intimidating than on new fuel injected, computer controlled jeeps. You can hear, see and get direct "hands on" experience with just about all of it and as you now know, where it gets confusing there's the whole "Willys" family here to to guide you through the tuff stuff. In the end you'll have a classic ride to enjoy and be able to go places you never thought you could drive.

Just last weekend we drove completely around Mauna Kea and then up the mountain and down the other side without hitting pavement once, it was amazing.

We'll then, I've never been there but Puerto Rico must be a beautiful place.
Hawaii is as we'll but I doubt Puerto Rico looks any thing like this in Winter.

There are many fantastic wilderness places to 4wheel through..we're all lucky to have Our Willys to get us out there.

all kidding aside, my wife is brazilian and we have been all over Brazil and i love it there almost more than here in the US. she went to Hawaii once and said it was nicer there than in Brazil. that is hard for me to believe.

not sure but my quess it is cheaper to live well in Brazil than in hawaii. and never having been there either - not sure about the girls. brazil has some awful nice friendly gals.

Hawaii looks pretty nice, the pacific and all, but you know cleveland's north coast is very underrated. The blue sky's, balmy temperature, and the gentle ambiance of Lake Erie just can't be beat.

I don't think our lighthouse was open that day, something about the entry door...

Hey ehrawn,
Found an old pic. of the Pali thought you might like to see.
That's the original road maybe the same wall where you parked.
Definitely a road where a Willys would rule.
