This is both a quote and a picture of the Red Dispatcher submitted by Mr. Bill Norris over on the CJ2A forum. He has given us permission to use it here.

Lindsey Clark had an extremely original DJ3A with this top at
the Spring Willys Reunion a few years ago.  It was the original
top too. We had it in our 2012 calendar.

He sold the Jeep by the end of the show and I'm not 100% sure who bought it. Maybe you can drop him a line and he can give you more info.

When I saw this jeep in TN the non original seats had been removed but everything else looked exactly the same. It is absolutely amazing and thanks again to everyone who helped me track it down.

I'm not sure from the little bit of the seats you can see in the pics but it almost appears he has the 60 part of the original seats and the 40 part has been replaced by a Willys wagon seat.

I have been calling them 60/40 seats but I see some call them 70/30... Which is correct I dunno. ..I do know the Surrey seats are basically the same springs as the early CJ5. The seat frames are almost the same but due to different mounting arrangements, there are some minor frame differences that a welder can take care of.

My convertible did come with the 60/40 seat setup which is one reason I was so eager to buy it at the time...but I think we may need to so a bit more investigating before we say ALL convertibles had them. I wouldn't put it past Willys to have two regular sized one person seats available as well. Time to go back and check out the parts lists and factory pics again.

I also would like to thank specifically Bill Norris and Lindsay Clark as well as Dave Eilers along with the 3B board regulars for the help in hashing this all out.

I didn't see that yellow Dj100 earlier.. wild! Love the Continental kit.

The small hubcaps, I have a set of three, were on the 13 inch rims the later Surreys could be ordered with. Bill Brown's Surrey used to wear them as well as 13 inch tires. He wanted higher top speed and the nicer caps so went to 15 inch ones. As far as we know no 14 inch rims were offered.

There's two different kinds of the half moon style hubcaps I've discovered. Thicker steel with chrome plating and thinner polished stainless steel ones. They look almost the same but something kept bugging me so I looked until I saw it. You'll probably catch it quicker than I did.

Same size, almost identical, but not quite.

The chrome plated steel ones like the one the top has a much crisper
W than the polished stainless steel ones do.

Those hubcaps should fit your 15 inch rims... I wasn't aware of the two styles of W....but in the search for a set of caps I did notice a bunch of different but similar Willys caps out there. Some of these hubcap specialists on Ebay are crazy with their pricing too.. That's why the DJ with doors has newer Jeepster and pickup and CJ5 caps on it . (That and the fact that I like the looks of them)

The hubcaps in the Surrey pics are plain.. I am not certain of the material , but I am leaning towards polished aluminum. They appear to be cheap aftermarket hubcaps at first glance but they are what Willys used with the 13 inch rim. I have looked for a single replacement but have yet to find the right one, There are a lot of similar ones out there but they don't fit the 13 inch rim. I have a lot of those similar ones..Right now the 13 inch rims are under the Katrina jeep so having the correct caps is not a huge priority.

Speaking of hubcaps...the Surrey cap is a unique animal as well. There is one aftermarket supplier out there producing a cap very similar in profile, but without the W and pinstripe depressions of course. I was considering ordering a set and using my sign cutter to make a W and a pinstripe which could be stuck on the smooth cap. Of course one could pinstripe the cap with a brush too. Then you'd have a much less expensive cap good for everyday use, especially if you tend to park too close to curbs like many of the Surrey owners have in the past.

Back to Convertible tops....We need a thread pirate smiley..lol. :ph43r:

i tried to remove that when I posted it but computer wasn't working with me.
it's been sick for weeks. I guess I am gonna have to put it down w/two to the drive.

I think its gone now. it was bracket on edge rolled to other edge.
didn't serve any purpose in making bracket.

I kinda think that might have already happened once to my dj in its past life. I've been guessing after the wreck that knocked the gas tank all catywampus and left a hole in it.

I almost wish I'd left the bullet hole so I could restore the jeep around it :ph43r:

I was looking at this on ebay. Some kind of brochure.

Here's the item details

AMA Specifications Catalog : This consists of a total of 32 pages , each is 8.5 x 11 . Features specifications for the DJ-3A Dispatcher Series 56 , and CJ-3B , CJ-5 , CJ-6 Universal Jeep Series 57 . It was originally printed by the AMA , Automobile Manufacturers Association Detroit . It includes detailed specifications that appear in no other factory publications . Includes : General Specifications , Engine - Mechanical , Electrical , Drive Units , Brakes , Front Suspension & Steering , Rear Suspension , Body Dimensions , Body & Car - General , Weights . Very detailed information and great for restoration , service and repair , general reference , etc . This is an exact reproduction and was originally printed by the AMA in very limited quantities and distributed to automobile factory executives and engineers and members of the press , but not to the general public or car dealers . This item is AutoLit Part #a606-6NWGC4.

This is a pic of a page that was shown there on ebay I don't know if it means anything but it does mention a dj and some symbols and codes. I don't know if they're in other part books or not so I'll add it here. Ebay # 370780715725

I tried to reply earlier but bad WIFI....A stripped chassis would be supplied to a customer to build something like a self propelled parade float...or an airport stairway tug or similar.. Just a rolling driveable chassis with drivetrain and steering, maybe with a cowl to hold the steering column up and the gages??

I forget where I saw someone who bought a jeep that had been a stripped chassis and put their own body tub on it, think it had been a parade float with a Bavarian mountain on it or something similar...
