Actually though they're turning out better than I first expected they would![]() Only one piece more to rough out.....Yaaaaas!!! ![]() I'd much rather be doing the fitting and finish work instead of the roughing out soooo It looks like I'm going to make it!!! And.... Going to save a whole hundred dollars and change for the shiny new full set of both sides I saw on ebay a few weeks ago that didn't even sell!!! :):):):)

Is there a replacement hat channel set that is correct for a DJ3A? I haven't actually measured them but they look taller than the Cj2A /3A ones....At least the ones in my DJ with doors are weird looking to me compared to a 2A set.. But it could just be me and my goofy brain.

There you go again! And F Bill, I think the word is "INCLINATION" that Willys had for useing parts on many different units! Those are the same tailites that they used on the Jeepster. You will find that the pins on the bulbs are flat opposite to each other rather than offset like the modern ones are. Always interesting following all these threads, as you never know when you can learn something good!!

Iv got an INCLINATION!!! that I'm going to let the taillight plug idea simmer around in the old noggin for a bit! I did get a chance to tinker around with the hat channels a couple of hours today. While doing so I managed to scrounge up some brass screws that I had laying around that just might work for my raw materials list. ![]() One thing I did discover as I was cutting the channels to fit is that that the set on the right is a little different from the one on the left because there's a slight offset in the transmission tunnel. So heres where I'm at. ![]() Right now they're just temporarily fitted. Lots more work to be done before they're actually welded down. Here's a picture of the ones on the drivers side ![]() My brain is absolutely bumfuzzled as to why the ones on the drivers side is still so good and the ones on the 'passenger' side was so rotted??? |

![]() Step one Rust scale VERY GENTLY removed. I worked on this one in three different sessions making very sure to not get rude with it. I 'believe' this to be thin aluminum and the rust scale to be have been caused by chemical reaction between the dissimilar metal in the firewall it was screwed to. ![]() Now I know why so many data tags didn't survive. They are very very soft, thin, and fragile. A stiff wire brush or sandpaper on it EVER in its life would probably have done irreversible damage. Ps. Somebody ought to look up all of them patent numbers and see what they actually apply to!

It never even occurred to me.... I KNEW we needed a place to tak about food somewhere because now I'v learned about something new and it's got my mouth watering. My wife's sister and her husband are coming down from Michigan in April. I'm thinking now that should be on the menu! Supper tonight just wasn't that great. We had tacos. Lettuce this time of year doesn't exactly taste right and the tomatoes don't have that garden ripened taste. Not that the tacos were bad....they just weren't that great.

I carried that blasted brochure around with me for a year. The picture showed tourist laughing and climbing those tall stone steps. The caption said something about climbing a ancient mayan pyramid....walking around the sacred temple at the top of it....and getting a "breathtaking view of the white sand beach and the blue waters of the Caribbean. I spent a lot of time thinking about the PEOPLE and what it must have been like back in those days. I 'wondered' if kids actually played on it too and how they lived. I wondered about their day to day lives. That's 'one' of the main reasons I saved up for that cruise. I wanted to see, feel, and climb that pyramid...... I wanted to peek inside that temple. I wanted to experience that view. Just like that 'current' brochure I carried around said I could if I actually ever made it there!!! Saved money for a year to make that trip. I meant to make the most of every second if I could!! ................................................. P.S. Got three of the hat channels spot welded to the bottom of that tub!!!!

By the time we got to that mayan compound I was Pretty irritated at the time we had wasted . Didn't help none that once we did get there we had to set and listen to a lecture about the place from some guy who was also pressuring everybody to buy a Mexican gold necklass . Me, I had already researched the place and I was ready to be turned loose .FINALLY after what seemed like hours and hours we were allowed to enter. Did I go straight to that pyramid??? Nope..... I started circling towards it from the farthest point I could find there Examining everything, all the structures and stone walls. All the buildings, trying to look at every rock. Figure out how they stacked them up, put them together , let my mind wander I wanted to save the best for last!!! |

Ran out if welding gas and had to switch to stick welding for these. Also had to repair the front tub mount before the last piece was spotted in. All in all though, it's going well for a patchwork quilt floor board and hand made hat channel ![]() ![]() |
