I have a DJ3a with serial number 56337 16575 and I also have a friend that has a dj3a with serial number 8203 24058. Is there a chart that gives the production years and number units built to match these numbers?

Thank you for your response to my post. I have looked at these charts and don't see the 8203 number of my friends jeep. The only place I see the 24058 number is listed in the 1964 column, am I looking at this correctly? Thanks

Hi Chuck, I have sent you an email with copies to Colin and Bruce. Just for everyone to know this is exactly the kind of information we are seeking to research these odd Willys Products. By getting S/N info, no matter what the condition, we can learn a little more each time. Your 56337 16575 was built during the 1959 model year, one of 1948 units. In 1964 Kaiser instituted a new Nomenclature Numbering System and changed the prefix numbers of the DJ3A to 8200, to 8205 depending on the body type. 8203 24058 was built in March, 1964 one of 127 units built that month. Several of us are trying to assemble a Production / Survivor Chart to learn more about the DJ3A. Individual owner info is not shared publicly without permission, but I urge all known DJ3A information out there to let us know, even if it is just an old title or registration. Very few of these 8200 numbers have surfaced and the only other 8203 entry I see is an Owners Manual I bought off eBay, 8203 23867. This small item netted us an actual Engine Number 3J175519 and a Dec. 1963 build date. Every little bit adds to the pile. This CJ3B Bulletin Board with the DJ3A Dispatcher Section has become the best source for us to work on learning more about these very low production Willys Products, and we have Derek Redmond, along with all his helpers, to thank.

I'd like to echo the sentiments of Glennstin that this site provided by Derek Redmon and associates has been an invaluable source of information, especially when all involved contribute.

These Dj's seem anything but 'cookie cutter' consistent in applications making them all the more interesting with all the possible variations discovered.

Thank you everybody for your participation and contributions.

HI Chuck-

In my reply to you that Glenn forwarded on to me, I requested photos and you sent me several of your friend's DJ3A and yours as well. Previously we weren't aware of the body style of the 8203 series, but we can tell from the photos the 8203 was the model designation for the DJ3A with the delivery hardtop on it. Same body style as your DJ3A, just with a model number change. We still haven't come across any DJ3As with the 8205 model designator. If any of you out there have a 1964 DJ3A with the 8205 number in front of the production number, please let us know either through this forum or by sending me an email at : colins60vette@cox.net

I also echo the efforts that Derek has performed to give us one of the best sites around for DJ3A information and to all who contribute to it.

I've got a few examples I can email to someone that uses a photo hosting site. The two examples show that the 8200 thru 8205 serial numbers were 'mixed' so there is no way to know how many of each they made.
Also, by combining the two documents, as an example, the first 1964 DJ was 23502. looking at the calender section, that means the model year change over for 1964 was mid september 1963, and the number in the 3J column that is hidden is the engine start number for the year.

I would be more than glad to post the images here if you want to send them to me.

Edit. Thanks, I received the images. Later today I'll post low resolution pictures here (have to) and provide a link back to full resolution pictures.
