Well guys, I have finally broken down and put my '63 surrey up for sale. I post this only because folks here might be interested what it sells for. I have put it on Craig's List here in the Keys with a price of $30,000. I'll let you all know if I get any interest. |

Darn, I was hoping to run into you and your Surrey in Key Largo this summer when I plan on bringing down my Dispatcher for one of the car shows there. Good Luck with the sale! It'll make somebody happy. SteveK |

As promised, am keeping those who are interested up on what's happening. Well Craig's List brought no responses so I have moved on to e-bay. Got her listed there with no reserve and a starting bid of $27,000. In a way I hope it doesn't sell. What the Hell, it doesn't eat much. |

I dropped the opening bid to $25K and still no opening bids so now I have re-listed her with an opening bid of only $5K and a reserve that is more in line with the market. Stay tuned I'll let you know how this final effort works out. |

Maybe it's a 'sign' you're supposed to keep and enjoy it. FYI, April 5th is a Hot Rod/Classic road trip scheduled from Cutler Bay (South Dade) to Taveneir for lunch and back, so plenty of 'car people' driving thru Key Largo. Good exposure for it if out on US-1 then. Also, there's a big Annual Car Show in Key West that weekend too, another gathering of car people to consider exposure to. Other car shows in South Dade listed at "Benefitcarshows.com" if interested. Good Luck! |

Right, Steve. I think it is a sign that I should just keep it. Even though I firmly believe that the Keys is where it belongs, I'm going to ship it back to Ohio so my granddaughters & I can drive and enjoy it. I'm also planning to take it to the Spring Annual Midwest Willys Reunion in Hudson OH this May. That sounds like fun. So if I learned anything with this little exercise it is that although many folks marvel over how much they like my Surrey there are apparently not very many folks who like it enough to pay even a fraction of what it costs to restore one. One person did make the opening bid of $5K but I'd be surprised if that would even buy a full set of restored seat, top and side curtain vinyl. |

I think a lot of it's the economy too. It seems to me like it's been pushing itself down for quite some time now. I know my own business has suffered tremendously and only grosses a small fraction of what I was turning over even as little as five years ago. So financially, no matter how much I like it or appreciate it or know how much it's actually worth..... in this economy I just plain couldn't afford it and even if I did have a certain amount of disposable income, I'd think long and hard about spending it. I do think there is a buyer for yours, just probably not Craig'slist or ebay guys like me who are only looking for or can afford the ocassional bargan. I 'think' that you'd be more likely to find your buyer at higher end car shows or auctions...or maybe even willys events where you might could be more likely to show it in person to people who do have that kind of disposable income. |

Hey Bill, Barret Jackson is having an auction in West Palm April 5th (I think) and that is the kind of buyers you're looking for...Good Luck! |

Bill- I really hope you do keep the Surrey. By shipping it back to Ohio, you will continue to enjoy it with your grandkids. Wish I could make the Jeep meet in Hudson OH this year, but we are taking an extended trip later in the summer and that is about what we can afford this year. Haven't gone anywhere since 2011, so it is time to get out of the Arizona heat for a little while. |

Well the Surrey is back in Ohio and it's still for sale. I'm finally realizing that no matter how "cute" the Surrey is, it's likely going to be sold to a Jeep ( or Willys) collector who wants to have a Surrey in the collection. If anyone on here fits this situation and really wants a Surrey just let me know. I'm guessing we can make it happen. |

Hi Bill You might try having Dave Eilers at eWillys.com put it back on his site for you. With all the auctions coming up in Arizona in January, you might find a buyer through eWillys. I would stay away from the auctions as they take a large chunk out of your selling price, plus having to pay them to even list it in their catalog. Barrett Jackson usually has a Surrey at one or more of their auctions, probably the same one selling over and over again! Hemmings might be a good place to put an ad as well. I think the Surrey is trying to tell you it likes the home it has with you and your family and wants to stay! |
