It's the flip down liscense plate holder with the light that goes in the middle of the tailgate that Dinesh is needing. I had one that I wasn't going to be using and recently mailed it USPS with tracking number and insurance. Well packaged, padded, and duck taped the seams, and marked fragile. I even included the fasteners that attach it to the tailgate. More than the money I was just wanting to help. The thing is, sadly it's now came up missing in the postal service. I've had a investigation opened for going on two weeks now. I've spent hours during the last two days trying to determine if one that they luckily found it (highly unlikely from what I understand) but so far I can't get a call back to find out how to collect the insurance or if it will be coming back to me or Dineshs friend. It doesn't matter though because as soon as I find out who they'll be refunding the insurance to I'm going to reimburse Dinese's friend for the money he sent me. Dinesh is a great guy and has been like me....more than patient than the USPS deserved because we kept HOPING they'd find the package any day. Even though not a hugely expensive part it is for me, and more importantly for HIM almost irreplaceable. I've always tried to be a man of my word and for me this is sickening. The worst thing is that at USPS this part may be lost forever and will likely never find a home on any DJ like it should be intended to. I would take it as a personal favor and be much in debt if anyone has or can locate one of these for sale to contact Dinesh to help make up for the one that I sent him that came up missing. Never again will I request any money in advance for any DJ part I may sell. From now on I'll be sending the part first that someone might need and trust them to pay me after they have the part in hand. There was NO reason that USPS should have entirely lost that package and I have never had that happen before. Again, if you have one of these or know someone that might PLEASE contact Dinesh. Thanks Charles Tate |

Well that is sad to hear. Don't give up on the TRACE/claim. Make them LOOK for the box. EMPHASIZE THE UNIQUENESS of the part. Embarrass them if you have to. A similar thing happened to my new brake shoes from a vendor. It finally showed up weeks later. The box was covered in some kind of black soot/oil residue from sitting somewhere, maybe under a conveyor machine, etc. Emphasize to USPS the uniqueness of the contents, and remember, government employees do not work fast, much less in your behalf. You have to PUSH IT, especially the tracking down of the package. Bubble it up thru ALL levels challenging their RESPONSIBILITY for 'package handling and tracking'. Maybe some boss will take an interest??????? Remind them the DJ was the beginning of "Postal Jeeps" and that is NO WAY TO DISRESPECT THEIR HERITAGE. Try everything! The claim belongs to the insurer, PAPAC. Good Luck! |

Thanks a lot Charles for all the help and support you have extended. I still cant come over the pain of losing the most adorable part that would have been on my dj. Still have faith we will find it some day.!! Hope it happens soon. If it comes to my cousins place or yours I'd be the happiest person to see it doesnt get lost for nothing. Mean time if anyone has one it would be of great help. thanks again. regards Dinesh |

Thanks SteveK for the supportive reply. I did put up a strong reply to their customer satisfaction survey, pointing up as to how can a priority/insured fragile marked package be lost ? Charles, I surely cant call them from India nor my cousin would understand the importance of the part.it would be better if you call them ask to reopen rather than accepting it is lost as pointed out by Steve. I have also tried to open up the case yet again but in vain on the USPS website. It would definitely be a good idea to point their heritage at stake on the loss of the part that would go onto a postal jeep. Just hoping it is found as it is far more valuable to me or Charles, personally / emotionally than the cost involved or showing the USPS what they should be doing. thanks again. Dinesh |

Well Dinesh, I feel a Special Interest in the potential loss of that part, and would prefer it be found and used, as I'm guessing it is the bracket and fasteners that Charles got from my Dj. Of all the parts he got from me, I struggled the most with letting that one go. I just thought it was neat and practical in design. As you said, the money or system flaws are NOT near as important as the 'recovery'. Good Luck! |

I took Steve's advice about explaining the importance of the part and have left multiple messages with the USPS over the last three days. I can't even get through to a real person at customer affairs for this area. The package was scanned only once and that was the PO I mailed it from. After that, nothing. I sent the following to Dinesh today. "I refunded the payment to your cousin. I will per Steve's advice continue to keep pressuring the Postal Service to find the package instead of sending me the insurance payment. I don't care about the money, I want the part found and that's what I told them. IF they do find it I will let you know immediately. This is the third day in a row USPS won't return my calls. My messages I left them today, on a recording, were not so nice. I explained the importance of the part and also mentioned that it was the exact same part as was used on early postal jeeps and that they should go out of their way to try to recover it. Charles" |

Since they won't return my calls I emailed this to the USPS again today. Tracking Number 9114 9999 4431 3144 0969 29 Claim Filed for lost package. This is a package that was very important. It is a folding tag holder with a light for a Willys 1956 era DJ3A. These included some of the first POSTAL JEEPS EVER MADE. And now A RARE and almost unobtainable part is missing because of you. THIS IS ALSO A PART OF YOUR HERTIGAGE. Please dont leave it at..... USPS loses rare, early, original part from one of the first Post Office delivery vehicles ever made. If you do, I would rather see headlines" "USPS LOSES RARE AND EARLY US MAIL DELIVERY VEHICLE ARTIFACT Than to have a insurance refund on the package. _________________________________________________ Steve you're right. It's the tag holder I got from you before I realized for sure I was going to be using a solid back panel instead of a tailgate. Almost no rust and could have easily been restored show condition. I wanted it to go to a good and proper home where it would be used and enjoyed rather than spend the rest of its life on a dusty shelf, that's why I sent it to Dinesh. I'll continue to fight with USPS as long as I can. Thanks for the ammunition you mentioned, as you can see I'm using it already. Charles PS. Please remember that this thread has gotten sidetracked and that DINESH is still in need of one of these if anyone can help. |

Hello Charles We are not off topic any more. Good news!! The parcel has been delivered and the licence plate holder is in pristine condition. Thanks Charles and Steve for all the support. Charles, I have asked my cousin to refund the amount to your account. Thanks again for everything. Personally think prayers worked to get the part safely to the destination and that will surely go onto my DJ. Thanks again. Regards and best wishes. Dinesh |

Amen to our prayers! Mailed Nov. 2, 1:47 pm Scanned once, Nov. 2, 2:10 pm and marked as left Post Office. And then......dead silence And now it has been a week since I got word that the package had been permanently lost and they were willing to pay the insurance claim. Our persistence has finally paid off!!!! If parts could speak that license plate holder would surely have a story to tell!!!! Because there's STILL no updates with any scans through the traditional USPS tracking system, and. Yes I did check just before I wrote this. . Even without additional scans and tracking earlier today it magically appeared at Dinesh's cousins house. I'm guessing that they finally found it and per our requests somehow expidited delivery. It makes me feel better to think that. And now they best part is that's not the end of that folding plate holder and lights story. Soon it will be continuing its journey as it makes its way overseas to India where after some TLC will find its rightful, permanent position in life by adorning the back of a DJ3A just as it was meant to all along. Wow, I am so grateful this had a happy ending Charles |
