I have no hands on experience with DJ's but would expect that the 1964 could have had either a generator or an alternator system. The front engine plate will indicate which type charging system was original to the particular engine that you have. The 1964 12 volt generator system would be an Autolite MDU 7004 mated to a 923130 or a 923129 (low cut in) regulator. A 1964 Motorola alternator system would require a # 923320 regulator. The 1964 12 volt horn would be an Autolite with spade type terminals (# 926595). I expect that 6 volt systems could still have been an option in 1964. |

I take it then that your engine has no generator nor alternator at present. Does the lower right side of engine block have a generator bracket attached via 2 bolts ? Or you can upload a pic of the right front engine support to show the mounting pattern of the original charge system. |

I shall get those pictures shortly. The engine had an alternator, but that I thought would have been a replacement.I never knew until you revealed that these jeeps had an alternator set up too. |
