Hello friends
Have been trying to rebuild the front I beam axle on the dj.
Most of the parts have come off fine except the cotter pin that holds the king pin in place.
All attempts have gone in vain, the locking cotter pin breaks down every time attempted.
Should it be heated up with a torch or ground down with a drill without damaging the axle itself.
Kindly help and guide ont he same.
Thanks
Dinesh

are you talking about #7 cotter pin or draw key #14 as seen in diagram?
If talking about #14 draw key.... it drives out. its is flat on side against pin and is tapered to go in/out only one way. drive it out as seen in pic. it doesnt come out easy but will come out.

make sure you line grease holes up in bushing/knuckle when putting bushings in

it drives out. its is round pin, flat on side that fits against king pin and is tapered to go in only one way. it doesnt come out easy but will come out. penetrating oil, heat, big hammer. it's probably been in since new so it's gonna take some brute force to drive it out. make sure your driving it out and not in.

do you have a good service manual? as this repair is covered within with important info to be aware of.
pivot pin replacement

you can use a vise to press bushing out & in or maybe socket to drive it out.

make sure you line up grease holes in bushing with knuckle when installing new bushings.

Good news.
Managed to separate all possible parts on the front axle.
Amazingly lucky to find a new set of king pins and bearings with bushes.
Got some issues of the taper end corrected.
Time for reassembly.
Thanks to this wonderful forum.
Regards.
