Managed to fabricate some hand brake appliances with locally available parts until I could get hands on the real ones or the one from Charles.
Could somebody help me with the length and points of attaching the rear handbrake cable ?
Pictures would be helpful too.
Thanks.

Because the ends of the dj3a Dispatchers emergency brake cable (rear inner cable) and a spring goes into the hubs itself and can't be seen without disassembly exact physical measuremens for reproduction purposes is impracticable.

I did have excellent outer housings and springs and I did make a new inner cable for my original housings but I didn't have real measurements.

As I assembled, with the hubs off and the equalizer and cable springs in place I just cut the one piece inner cable to fit as I assembled it and sweated and swedged on the new steel ends that I made that attach to the levers inside the hubs. I didn't take any measurements at the time. Photographs inside the hubs other than the ones shown in the next post were lost in a major phone crash.

In retrospect for 49.95 plus whatever shipping it would have been much easier to do this.

And for 31.45 plus whatever shipping this for the front cable

From Apr. 8 2014

This is all I documented at the time when replacing my cable cores

Quote:

Apr. 8, 2014:   Replaced the inner core in my rear emergency brake cable.  Since the only cable stop swedges that I know of are aluminum  and I wanted steel I made my own out of a concrete anchor bolt.  X cut to help center the drill bit

Posted Image

Rounded it off and cut off a couple of slices.  Worked the cable through all of its hardware, and wound up with this

Heated, slid into place, and swedged tight using a groove I had ground into a piece if steel and a hammer.  Then cooled in water so it would shrink really tight on top of the swedging.

I still have to finish my equalizer and make the adjuster rod.

Got a reply from Walcks on the length of the rear cable.
He says it is 21" on either side and 92" overall.
this leaves me more confused.
Need help again.
thanks

In its entirety its a one piece cable, circles around from inside one hub, around the equalizer, and back into the other hub.

If Carl Walck says the overall length of his cable is 92" then I'll bet that's the correct measurement you're looking for.

Haven't been out to my DJ but the 21" he mentions is likely the length of the cable housing that the inner cable runs through on each side.

Thanks Charles for the input.
This is turning out to be very interesting though confusing.once we get our hands working on the cable and the assembly, hope it gets easier.

A I think you're right DINESH that at this point once you start working hands on with the cables and parts it'll start making sense to you.

Note: on you other thread

http://z4.invisionfree.com/CJ3B_Bulletin_B...?showtopic=6534

I have now edited and added a good part number from Walcks for the rear dj3a Dispatcher emergency brake equalizer itself, along with all of the other parts including Dispatchers emergency brake cables that were previously listed with that they have.

Previously I was unaware that they even sold this item.

Yes Charles,
I have seen those parts you have posted a list from Walcks.
I need those parts now during the assembly so have to get them fabricated until I recieve those.
That is surely a great guide and I need the length of the two rods attached to the equilizer, and the length of the equiliser itself.Could yu please help me with that?
Doesnt look to be very difficult for a makeshift part.
Regards.
