Unexpectedly, I received this well worded but very sad e-mail, and I thought the Willys World should know we have lost a buddy of high knowledge and dedication to DJs and Willys Jeeps in general...I echo Colin's sentiments. RIP Bruce. Please pray for his survivors...He has left them waaaay too early. "To all- Sadly, I have to inform you of the passing of our friend Bruce Agan this evening after a short battle with cancer. While he and I never met, we had numerous conversations and emails in the years since I got my Surrey. He was our resident expert on Surreys and DJ3 A Jeeps and could always be counted on to weigh in on conversations about these little Jeeps. He was in the hospital the last time we spoke about a month ago and he was in great pain, not sure that he was going to beat this cancer. Bruce, may you rest in peace, free from pain and with your son cruising the streets of heaven in your Surrey." |

Rest in Peace Bruce! (BA25) We shared many conversations and emails over the past 6+ years, starting the weekend when I bought my 1960 Surrey. I read just about everything I could find that you had written and put on the internet about Surreys and how to restore them. You were the go to guy for the information I needed. As our group corresponded back and forth on this valuable forum, more folks who became aware of the DJ3As and Surreys joined in and emails went back and forth with copies to a bunch of us so we all had the same information. You graciously sold me some of the memorabilia about Surreys that you had collected over the years and were always available for a call, a request for information or advice. You have suffered several family tragedies over the past 7 or 8 years, as well as health problems, with this last one being the big one. God gave you a purpose in life and we are all the better for you having been among us and we know that you now rest with your Lord. I know I speak for many of us when I say we have lost a good friend. I will try to get in touch with the family today will post any service information and a mailing address if you want to send condolences to the family. I am devastated. Every single time I ever contacted Bruce he took the time to help me. Every time. The technical information, whole manuals, just about everything the engineers ever wrote about Surreys, Gala's, and other dispatchers on his site have been instrumental to my learning curve and details in my own restoration. Often when I'm in a hurry to this day I still don't dig through my books, I just go back to that site jeepsurreygala.com and refresh my memory. Even as recently as two days ago I did this while working on my DJ. A few weeks ago I copied and posted one of his postcards of a DJ convertible in the Philippine's in my build thread. I knew he wouldn't care, he was always happy to share information like that. Bruce, I know you are resting now pain free and even though we'll miss you for that I am grateful. I and the many others that you have helped over the years will fondly remember you always and those memories will always live on. Your friend Charles Tate |

Derek informed me of Bruce passing while we were both at The Great Willys Picnic in Kempton, PA on Sunday. All we can do now is cherish the vast knowledge he imparted throughout our hobby, sharing freely even though he never met many of us personally. We all feel as if he was next door when we ran an issue by him. We were on a first name basis, and our Willys Buddies just seem endless. Guess we're not so endless, but we're sure better for sharing. When we cross over, we'll be asking for you, Bruce. Stay tuned. |
