Here's a pretty good shot of dj3a Dispatcher' #30's engine bay

And a shot of its carburetor.

TECH FACT: Correct carbureator for a 1956 DJ3A Dispatcher is a YF 2392S. Later models changed to a YF2392SA. These numbers should be stamped on a flange on the side of the carburetor. I don't readily have the year or the serial number of the change. Gas fiiters were optional for all years.

While its pretty conclusive that at least some of these parts are replacements, radiator hoses, clamps, etc for the most the surviving hard parts on this jeep are a really good indication of what to look for in determing originally or correctness in early DJ3A Dispatcher engines.

In comparison here's some pictures of the engine bay in Bruce Agans 1964 Surrey. This one had the oil bath air filter instead of having the harder to find dry air filter.

Will you be rebuilding your original block out of the jeep or using another one and adding the DJ parts to it?

noting the fan shroud on that jeep is off of a cj3a. Dj3a Dispatchers did not come equipped with a fan shroud.

And in the news.

Some things have a better ending than others. Matt now knows that he has a correct engine, head, intake, and choice of a solex replacement carb OR the original DJ3A Carb which they still have in storage. As I understand him his plan is to be rebuild the original stuff if possible as he undertakes to bring his Dispatcher back to life.

Matt also sent me some information from another site helping to better explain engine casting numbers in detail. That was great because I truly do like learning and sharing new things.
