SO I have a 134L the serial number is 3J 157012. Am I right to think this is a 1959 DJ-3A engine? Next Question What do you guys with 134L's that came with Vacuum distributors do about vacuum advances as in a replacement or spare? My distributor is an IAT-4005 I would like to get a Petronix Magnetic trigger for it but since its not listed in their chart the guy tells me its $300-350 to find out which kit fits it. Are there any other magnetic triggers you guys use in this type of distributor? Thanks Much Mark W. |

Hey Mark, I wasn't going to reply as I'm not familiar enough with the DJ number system nor the vacuum advance distributor. I only have experience with 'my DJ Dispatcher project', with a serial number indicated it was assembled and assigned in fall of 1961, but not sold and/or titled until Feb 1962. Your motor serial number is "ahead" of my "3J169168", and mine also has a curious "3 61" stamped deeper into the metal over the 3, as if maybe someone indicated it was assembled in March 61????? Nobody seems to know what that is there for, or exactly what it means. As for the distributor, mine is a "IAY4401" model, and I installed a "#P-1548 Petronix kit" (labeled for the IAY4401 distributor) in it, and my distributor does not have 'vacuum advance'. Beyond that, I haven't a clue how to help you. I can say, my first Petronix kit I bought wouldn't fit, I don't remember the model now, but there 'are different models with purpose' for it. Maybe somebody else has more experience to help you with your situation. Good Luck! |

Hi Mark, I have a 1959 DJ, with a serial number of 15815. This puts it in the middle of the 1959 production. The engine number is 3J163780 which sounds in line with Steve's 1961 number. Sounds like yours could be a little older, but would best be answered by Colin or Glenn since they maintain the database. Mine does not have a vacuum advance distributor. Alan |

My 1962 parts and research dj3a serial number 56337 22354 has a IAY distributer just as does my 1956 DJ3A. Neither of these distributors have vacuum advance. I’m not intricately familiar with IAT distributers nor have I ever changed any distributer on anything I’ve ever owned from points to a electronic pickup so I honestly can’t be much help here. Sorry! |

I guess I should have been clear the distributor is not from a DJ-3A its from a 1961 FC-150 134F at least that is what the guys at NAPA told me when they looked it up. I was just hoping someone here had dealt with one. I ask everywhere I go you might say. If find it amazing more people aren't interested in the Vacuum advance distributors given their superiority for use on the road. Which of course is why they were in Wagons and Pickups. Thanks for checking |

Given that "new information", why don't you try the CJ3B post where they have the F-head too? There are some very "experienced", and "creative" too, guys there that can probably be more useful to you than DJers with L-heads. Just a suggestion. |
