Dear friends, I have been restoring my open body 1964 dj3a RHD here in India. I'm looking for how the passenger side rear seaters on the tabs on the body and floor. The seat lacks longer support rods as seen on usual cj seats and is not stable and fixed. The seat as such has 2 holes on each end exactly where it rests on the tabs. Would it have a clip or just a rubber bush to hold it in place. ( Not yet been able to learn posting pictures directly on the forum) Thanks and regards. Dinesh |

Dinesh. I haven’t yet documented or taken really good pictures of dj3a seats. I do have plans to to make some minor alterations to Steve’s old dj3a drivers side seat which had been partly broken and repaired and some major alterations to his old passenger side seat and restore them back to the exact pattern that I have of some old rusted out DJ3A seats that that I know are correct. That will most likely be later this spring. We’ve had a NASTY winter here and this year my shop and sheds are unheated and I have hardly been out in them. Sadly enough Bruce Agan did once document seats but those pictures I didn’t save and they are lost among one of his many photobucket accounts. I tried to find and recover them but photobucker has made their site almost impossible to navagate. I was uncessful despite spending several hours trying. In the meantime as soon as it’s not raining, cold, and nasty here which got really really intense just over a week ago I’ll personally get out, take, and send you some pictures of what I have. Perhaps that’ll help you temporarily until that I am able to fully document for CJ3B.Info when I get ready to rebuild my seats which is something I’v been looking forward to for a long long time. Thanks Charles. Meantime I managed to clean up all the seats and spring framework on the dj3a seats. I realised that the seat springs were intact and only the supporting springs holding the main springs have to be replaced. However, the springs on the back rest were badly rusted and I managed to save about 10 springs from the back rest. Searching for replacement springs , initially in vain I scored on a very original seat from a dj5/6 which had very peculiar date tags. These would be a donor to the back rest springs on the dj3a. I shall send pictures of all I could document on the seats to your email Charles, and if you find those to provide some information kindly post it on the forum. Regards. Dinesh |

Dinesh. I spent quite a bit of time looking at the DJ3A seat frames complete with springs that you sent me. Good job with the repairs you’ve done and in cleaning them up Also good job finding the replacement springs that you needed. It quite interesting and worth pointing out that the wide drivers side seat and narrow passenger side jump seat is reversed on your right hand drive dj3a from what most of ours here in the states would be. At this time I can’t really post any pictures here myself but keep us informed on what kind of padding and material that you decide to use to replace the covering that you took off. I’v tried several times to get what might could have been samples or patterns of 1956 DJ3A seat covers but have always been unsuccessful. |

Thanks Charles. The seats are reversed on position as this is a right hand drive dj3a. Surprisingly the holes for fixing the seats are still present on the floor. I did find the original upholstery under the covers I removed and would try to find a near matching replacement. |
