Nuckle, I'm disappointed that you still try to find ways to justify the trade. I know you're a smart guy and you cannot be serious with your "a top 5 pick is more valuable than Bobby Ryan" claims. Also, if you received both Ryan and Doughty you very well know your team wouldn't finish in the bottom 5. You have gathered lots of pool points so far, you've just been unlucky with your matchups. You may fool some GMs but you're not fooling me as I've seen how you work in MHL and how you took an expansion team to a championship only in 2 seasons by lopsided trades.

If you weren't involved in this trade I would find it hard to believe that you would be okay with it. You're in a defence mode so of course you're going to deny it but just take a look at "Ryan+Doughty for Havlat+1st" and try to tell me with a straight face it's not rip off.

Also, no one is calling you a thief or Evo an idiot. Evo made an offer in the heat of the moment that he didn't quite think though carefully enough and you got a chance to make your team much better so of course both accepted. Both just made a human mistake. Evo as a GM and you as a Staff Member (because you should have realized that it will have consequences if you accepted a trade like this). Sometimes this kind of stuff happens and that's why it is good to have some kind of a veto system in place. Otherwise we'll start losing GMs if there are teams that have destroyed their future or teams that are too stacked and too dominant.

I agree with Mr. Penguins. Nothing even guarantees Horton+Havlat+Wideman would outproduce Ryan+Doughty for the remainder of the season. I mean if "win now" mode would be an argument for the trade to be fair. Ryan and Doughty are slumping right now, but they are truly a franchise players (at least Doughty) who will both produce much more than what they are doing at this very moment.

Contract differences are also just so drastic they can't be ignored in any way. 2x 4 years for franchise players vs two coming UFAs + 2-year Havlat. Give me a break Nuckle. :)

I would understand if Ryan and Doughty would be a bit more unproven players, but they were almost in superstar category and definitely in star category only last season.

Like said, vetoing this trade makes all the sense since the balance would suffer too much if such trades were happening in this league.

Two BC boys making a lopsided trade with each other...hmmmm...sounds like Canuck fan's to me. Let the riots begin.

Although i HATE vetoing trades as it takes away some responsability from GMs but if there is ever a case for vetoing a trade it would have to be this one...

don't really matter to me maybe its because im from LA and sick of that crybaby doughty. I think he is over hyped but voynov is a better player than him.

Listen I can understand why it's vetoed because I admit it looks bad on the surface, but you guys are being short sided in your analysis. Right now both of our teams are looking like bottom 5 finishers, and we both want to win now. The difference is that he doesn't own his first. He has no incentive to finish near the bottom this season. This deal would have likely netted him a top pick who's value would be at least equivalent to Ryan (you guys are telling me you would rather have Ryan at 5.1 than a top 5 prospect making 1.3M? Or does salary not matter anymore?)

Same thing goes for Doughty, he's not tearing up the league making $3M.. He's eating up over 10% of a teams cap while playing like an average dman. Horton, Havlat and Wideman will likely outproduce these two and after this season it frees up a lot of cap space to use on players picked in the FA draft or through trade (or once again does cap space not matter in this league?)

You guys are making it seem like Evo is an idiot and I'm pulling off the biggest heist of the century. Maybe try to take a macro perspective and look at the whole picture before commenting.
Dude, relax, everyone has an opinion. Who are you to tell us that our opinions are not "looking at the whole picture"? Your opinion is just like that of the rest of us, no greater, no lesser. I think I was looking at the "whole picture" when I said I thought the deal was one-sided. To answer your question, yeah, I would usually take Ryan over a top 5 pick because even with a cap limit, there is space to include some big money makers. It would depend on the year and the likelihood of it being a top 2 or 3 pick but usually a bird in the hand is better than a bird in the bush, even when it's a difference of $4m. You can try and draft a team solely on their points/$ basis but good luck trying to win that way. You need to manage your roster with a mix of top stars and top rookies and Ryan (or Doughty) is a top star that I would choose over 3 Havlats making the same money because he is a young star who had a slow couple of months rather than an aging star who is like a ticking timebomb, primed to explode in the face of the GM who ends up saddled with a big salary and little production.

We all have our own pet players and internal biases and I've found that in the leagues I've been in, the concensus of the other GMs is usually a pretty good barometer of how good my deals are.

Fwiw my comments weren't directed at you, because you didn't judge the deal at first glance. I understand the trade looks bad and I've moved past it. I think the basis of my frustration stems more so from a lack of activity. It sucks when you're struggling and you want to make a deal, but there isn't one out there. It may be time for a fire sale..

Don't feel too frustrated Nuckle cause you're not alone lol, I've been trying to pull off a trade or two for weeks here just for the sake of doing something other than losing. I guess there's not a lot that can be done when the season is as unpredictable as this one though. When the NHL leaders heading into the 1/3 point of the season are Kessel, Giroux (the one respectable one), Lupul, Versteeg, and Vanek, there's not a lot one can do but scratch their head.

I understand your frustration. Our GMs haven't been very eager to do trades, but I guess that's because of the money league aspect. With cash in play and stakes much higher than in a free league, I guess everyone is really careful with their actions, including me I have to admit.

Victoria doesn't have a 4th rounder in 2012. Please rework the trade so it can be accepted by the league, thanks.

Winnipeg and Burnaby have agreed on a deal:

TO Burnaby:
D Dustin Byfuglien + F Ales Hemsky + WPG 5th 2012

To Winnipeg:
F Steve Weiss + D Ryan Wilson

This deal gives me some much needed cap space and with a little luck will give me more production over the rest of this season and into the future. Thanks for the deal, Knuckles

Burnaby confirms. Michalek is having a great year, but it would likely go to waste on my roster. We needed to shed some salary after our recent acquisitions and this was exactly the type of deal we were looking for. Thanks to Kelowna for the smooth talks.

Here's a big one fellas. Victoria and Anaheim would like to announce a blockbuster.

Bobby Ryan + Jose Theodore + Andeas Nodl + Anthony Stewart for Brett Connolly, Oliver Ekman Larsson, Dmitry Orlov, Patrick Berglund, Jason Arnott, and a 1st rounder (2012).

Victoria would like to thank Anaheim for the great trade talks! So sad to see Bobby go, and Jose too who has been great for us this season, but really feel this helps both of us accomplish our goals right now.

Nice trade guys, good value going both ways. I wanted Ryan too but I am not in a position to move picks or prospects.

I have a blockbuster deal to announce, my hands are still shaking while typing this...

To Osaka: (F) Johan Franzen, (D) Brent Seabrook, VIC 3rd 2012

To Victoria: (F) Anze Kopitar, (F) Nate Thompson

Good bye, Kopitar... I though I'd never trade the guy but hard to turn down both Frazen and Seabrook. At least I get increased production for a short while but what if Kopitar becomes that 100 point guy? Uh oh. Anyways, nice doing business with you, Evo. :)
