So, who else here is a Trekkie?

As you probably already know, Star Trek has been a highly successful science-fiction franchise, first appearing in 1966 and running for 3 seasons. It wasn't until the show hit syndication that it really picked up steam and popularity.

Since then, several sequel-movies and spin-off shows have been created.

The way Star Trek has influenced not only other science-fiction works but real life cannot be overstated. Many a scientist, inventor, actor, etc. took great inspiration from Star Trek. Most of the bright minds working at NASA are Trekkies. Some conveniences of today, such as flip-top-mobile-phones are directly inspired by this franchise's rich history.
Not to mention most of the stories are damned enjoyable.

Currently, on television, Star Trek is kinda dead as far as new TV episodes are concerned after Star Trek: Enterprise didn't quite meet expectations, but the franchise itself had recently been revived in the form of an alternate-reality reboot movie of the original series. Regardless, it continued to enjoy huge popularity and production numbers in the realm of books and comics with new stories mostly set in the "original," pre-reboot continuity still being churned out by such great names as Peter David.
And then there's a plethora of video games that let one be a part of this grand universe themselves. Especially the point and click adventures, few as they are, really did well in getting the feel of a "perfect" Trek game in most gamers' opinions.

So… what's everyone else think of all this?

I have the next generation, can't find the orginal series anywhere, I didn't really know much about it until my dad dragged me to see the recent movie on opening day.

Hm, while the most recent movie makes for a good action-sci-fi movie, I think it also makes for a bad Star Trek movie, personally. There's just not a whole lot of "believable science" involved (i. e. "black holes should not work that way. They crush matter") in favor of lots of explosions and phaser fire. =\ Oh well.

I'm not a Trekkie...But My Dad is..So I know stuff about ST. |: I usually make fun of the cheesey graphics in the episodes...just to annoy my Dad.
Sometimes I get sucked into it. But Never enough to watch a full episode.

Eh. I'unno. I can agree that stuff from the first series and the first couple of seasons of TNG is kinda cheesy, but after that, sh*t's kinda getting real-ish.
Like, this unhealthy looking poet-guy:

Phasers, if anything. xP
Eh, don't exactly see what's any more cheesy about though. =\ They're among the better special effects on Trek in my opinion.

The past is dead. It was all just a dream...
I used to watch it whenever I could catch the reruns, But I do have and enjoy some of the older movies such as Wrath of Kahn and the one where Kirk and Picard meet due to some circumstance. (Sorry the descriptions vauge I can't remember what the anomaly was called which caused everything.)

I also enjoyed the newest movie though I agree with Herman that it was good as a Sci-fi/Action flick it didn't seem like a Star Trek movie.

Heh. That'd be Star Trek Generations and the anomaly is called the Nexus. : 3 I only remember it that detailedly because, well, it was the only Trek movie I had growing up, plus I had the game to the movie when I was a kid. xD; I still have it, in fact. : B
