HOW TO CREATE BASIC TILES I noticed that many mapmakers have problems with creating tiles. So I decided to create a mini-tutorial:) I don’t consider myself an expert in this field, so I will show you how to create only basic tiles:) To create a tile, you can use Paint or GIMP, which also I use when I do need to patch ... My main program to create tiles is TILE STUDIO. It is free and very easy program. Here you can download it. TILE STUDIO DOWNLOAD If you already have downloaded the program, let's create a tile!;) How to create a tile? (for example grass) 1.Start Tile Studio. 2.In the palette on the right, left-click somewhere in the light green area. Spoiler: click to toggle 3.Now we'll choose a set of colors from this pattern which will be used for the grass. Left-click the shade just left from the center and drag two shades to the right, you'll see that the line above the center becomes an arrow. Spoiler: click to toggle 4.In the toolbox at the left, select the Filled Rectangle and Smooth Random Fill. Spoiler: click to toggle 5.Finally, with the left mouse button, draw a rectangle over the entire canvas and that's all! Spoiler: click to toggle Simple right?:) How to create a shadow? 1. First, create a duplicate of tiles which have just created (click CTRL+D) 2. In the toolbox at the left, select the Darken tool. Spoiler: click to toggle 3. Draw a vertical rectangle (for example, fifteen pixels wide) Spoiler: click to toggle You can also rotate the tile (click Ctrl + Backspace] To save the tile, go to FILE -> SAVE CURRENT TILE AS... or if you have more tiles created, click on Export tiles (IMPORTANT! Deselect Transparent color at the bottom-right corner) IMPORTANT! You have to save the tile as a type of PNG! IMPORTANT! Spoiler: click to toggle And this is an example map created by this tiles: Spoiler: click to toggle

This is pretty basic indeed, but very useful for those new to tiling or that are having difficulties with it (I won't name any). Great job Potor! |

I have windows 7, but the paint not differs too much ... Ok I'll explain again:) 1. Open the tile in Paint 2. Mark the tile 3. Copy the tile (ctrl + c) 4. Paste the tile (ctrl + v) 5. Hold down the left mouse button, then drag a copy of tile to connect it with the original tile:) ![]() 6. Finally, create a text (the icon for this option is "A") Sorry, but I can't explain better xD |

How to create a box?![]() 1. Start Studio Tile 2. Open the colors palette and select the background color of the box (I chose gray) and click "OK" Spoiler: click to toggle 3. Then click the left mouse button on the selected color. Spoiler: click to toggle 4. Hold down SHIFT and left-click somewhere in the black area. Spoiler: click to toggle 5. Now select the set of colors which will be used for the background box. Left-click the first shade and drag three shades to the right. Spoiler: click to toggle 6. In the toolbox at the left, select the Filled Rectangle and Smooth Random Fill. 7. Now the left mouse button, draw a rectangle over the entire canvas. Spoiler: click to toggle 8. Then choose color of the box border. It's best to use a lighter color than what we used to create a background box. So repeat steps 2, 3, 4 and 5. Open the colors palette and select the lighter color (I chose light gray). Then click the left mouse button on the selected color. Hold down SHIFT and left-click somewhere in the WHITE area. Left-click the first shade and drag three shades to the right. Spoiler: click to toggle 9. In the toolbox at the left, select the "LINE" Spoiler: click to toggle 10. Now draw a border (for example, two pixels wide) Spoiler: click to toggle 11. Finally, draw two diagonals (for example, three pixels wide) Spoiler: click to toggle Congratulations! Your box is ready;) BTW. I would ask the administrator to organize my guide:) Unfortunately, in one post doesn't fit all, cuz there are too many pictures... |
