So, I am about to become a university student in 3 years (I hope so) on Computer Science field. And soon I'll be able to gather 625+ euros for a computer.

In other words :
1) Portability may be a necessity.
2) Should be an average computer, but at least I want to be able to play Minecraft, Nexuiz, CS, NFS, COD, run Virtual Box and Android emulator smoothly.
3) I don't want to buy it along with a Windows cd preferably if possible.
4) Price value should be (minimum) 600<price<750 (maximum).
5) 64bit is prefered since compiling Android from source requires it.
6) Middle-Finger to NVIDIA as Linus Torvals correctly stated.

Now, my question is should I buy a Laptop or a Desktop (and which brands do you suggest)?

Pros | Cons
Laptop: Portability (required for student life?), less wires(I hate them) | Battery cells are wearing out after many full-charge cycles, low-powered hardware = less performace compared to desktops, temperature levels climb faster
Desktop : More energy-consuming power hardware resulting better performance, upgradable hardware, you can build and order it, no battery, cheaper than laptops| No portability, wires, I can't think anything else...

I bought a laptop for £650 - $1000 - €800

Wanted Mobility for making websites and playing games :3

I'd say laptops are great if you have a high budget however a PC is good for a lower budget imo.

Laptops - Batteries can be replaced.
PC's - Can be noisy if not setup correctly ;P

I Voted Desktop, Just the scary fact that your Laptop can be broken so fast... i understand that you can take it anywhere but if you don't take care of it, you might just regret buying a laptop.

I have a 10 year old laptop ("I have", not "I use"). It still works.

And my current one? Couldn't be more satisfied. Can outmatch most of today's desktop systems.

My laptop came with 1 year warranty I can get a replacement whenever I want if it breaks, if it breaks after that just get a new one.

I don't regret buying my laptop.. It's fast, great for gaming and doing work (making websites + learning more techniques)

muhu, this is better than the one you mentioned : http://www.skroutz.gr/s/2565893/Samsung-Series-5-535U3C-A02-A6-4455M-4GB-500GB.html

I eyed on this (woot woot, exactly what I was looking for) : http://www.skroutz.gr/s/2317403/Toshiba-Satellite-S875D-S7239-A10-4600M-6GB-750GB.html
Newegg.com link : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834214893

ALL LINKS ARE IN GREEK.

EDIT : That Toshiba one doesn't support CPU Virtualization, which means no Emulators, No virtualboxing...
Could somebody help me find a laptop with same specification as the toshiba one?

Pro-Tip - Buy an unbranded laptop without an operating system you get better value for your money ;3

e.g. http://www.novatech.co.uk/laptop/

I had HP probook in mind, it's fast, and can run everything you want.

This is the one my sister has, It's performance is really nice, but will start to lag a bit if you add any SPs.

http://www.ebraincity.com/ebraincity/products/HP-PROBOOK-4530s-Intel-Core-i3%252d2330M-2.20-GHz-Windows-7.html

It costs only 600$
It's a icore 3

Here's another one(same one) but with better performance specs...

Good Luck!

Do they ship to Greece? :/
I loved the laptop you have! But, the only reason I am afraid to buy unbranded laptop is because I want to be sure for drivers support. Also linux compability.. Do you know if the latest linux kernel supports all the hardware your pc has?

And when I get the money and if they DON'T ship to Greece, would you buy one for me when I sent you the money, please? (all the costs mine, of course) O:)
This is only if I really end up on buying a laptop like yours.

@S85 No linux available + Windows supports exactly the software I want + The price is high = No.

I prefer i7 or generally quad-core processors, thus I don't want i3 or i5 products.

Thank you all for your replies... :D
