I would prefer that. I'm slow, and have difficulty finding the character I want immediately. |

(Q)_< Because people like the 1 board thing for choosing multiplayer character. Of course Id rather have more characters instead of getting rid of them AND YES ITS A NEW GAME BUT!!!! Its a series. And in series you dont get rid of things just cause they arent "needed". As far as needing goes we only need tar shacks, cloths around our extremities, and food and water....and reeces pieces |

Oh, just relax. You get rid of things in series all the time. Mario got rid of the Tanooki suit after just one game, and flying items after two games. X-3 was lacking the opening mutation lecture. It's a series. Series ADAPT. They don't stay static. Also, congrats to Terra. |

You make a good point, MFD, except... Mario is a sidescrolling/3-D platforming series. It changes things because it has to, to keep people playing. Smash Brothers is a multi-player fighting game, the idea (and execution) of being able to play human opponents versus stale computer generated AI can keep people playing, so it's pretty counter-productive to *remove* anything, especially characters, and it's just silly if they end up putting them back in anyway. |

Huh. Let's see. Nobody liked Dr. Mario. Perhaps it would be more efficient that they make Dr. Mario a Mario costume and freed up some space not on the player select screen, but on the DISC itself, for another character. Pichu was another almost universally hated character. Delete him, and free up more space. There are reasons to change. Also, maybe they'll focus less on a massive roster and more on massive 1P content. AI with limited learning? A story mode? They could take away certain aspects (like some of the stages... anyone actually LIKE Pokemon Floats?) to add new aspects (level Arsenal Gear). EDIT: Also, I call bull on your point that it being multiplayer means it doesn't need to change. I know I'm really bored of playing both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark in the Complex, no matter who I'm playing against. New content has to be added, and sometimes that means letting go of the mediocre content from the last game. |

Yeah, but Dr. Mario was redundant as a CHARACTER because he was no different from Mario. If he were a secret COSTUME, because it's basically Mario in a different skin, it would be more efficient. |

Dr. Mario had pill-tossing abilities, didn't he? Of course, I still didn't know anyone that played him. ... and I liked Pichu. <.< |

~Acting steady always ready to defend your fears What's the matter with the truth, did I offend your ears By suggesting that a change might be a thing to try Like it would kill you just to try and be a nicer guy It's not like you would lose some critical piece If somehow you moved point A to point B Maintaining there is no point changing 'cause That's just what you are That's just what you are~ | |

*I* like Dr.Mario. Other people, in this thread alone, have said they liked him too. You're insane if you think they're gonna focus on *single-player content* in Smash Brothers. One of the reasons Nintendo said at E3 that SSBB would be held back until 2007, would be because otherwise, they're afraid no-one would *have time* to play the other Wii games! And stop thinking EVERYONE is like you. Halo 2's been out for years now, and it's *still* the most frequently played game on X-Box Live. Good, fun multiplayer can last far longer than the best singleplayer, and game companies know this. |

XBOX Live has DLable maps and new content, dummy. Goldeneye did not. Therefore, it got stale. I'm not assuming everyone is like me. Multiple people in this thread felt that Dr. Mario was a waste of a character slot. The game's designers even admitted that they were stretching to come up with enough characters to fill a 25-man roster. |

The problem with focusing on non-online multiplayer is you don't always have friends who want to do that. The problem with ONLINE multiplayer is fears of getting viruses onto the system, internet syndrome, and the hassle of installing an internet connection into a new room. The advantage of single player is usable by EVERYONE capable of procuring a game and system, regardless of friends, fears, and finances. Also, if you focus on single player, they HAVE to buy more games at some point, earning them more money. |

Halo 2 is the most played online game because it was the best game for Xbox. The E key on my board just came off. |

My point about the single play is that currently, it's just a chore to get the secrets. When it could be an enjoyable experience in and of itself. I am aware that nobody except me plays the 1P SSBM, but this is SSBB we're talking about. And I think an o verhaul of the 1P mode to make it more enjoyable for others is a neat idea. |

I play single player SSBM when I run out of other stuff to do and just want to screw around for a bit. Think its possible that they will ever do a stage creator in the game? Edit : the main problem with the CPU's in the game is that they don't take advantage of the characters to their best, how often do you see Ness do a fully powered PSI Flash or a The Thunder Rocket. |

I actually enjoyed getting most of the unlockables in SSBM. Getting some of the later stages was annoying, though. And some of the event matches were just frustrating. |
