Ever since Symphony, the series has become more and more Japanese. I think the people in charge just don't get that it's supposed to be a European legend and story. |

...except that Soma's last name is Cruz, not Belmont...and that Soma's story takes place in the modern era or close to it, whereas Simon's took place in...1700's? 1800's? |

Well, to be honest, I don't see how the Japanesish look shows very much, except maybe with Mina, and she IS Japanese. The Habuka Shrine is in Japan. Man Alan, its just a plot point. http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbadvance/...vania_story.txt |

So, a Japanese girl and a guy that looks Japanese are kidnapped and taken to a castle that' supposed to be in Europe and greeted by Alucard who's using a Japanese name, and you don't see any Japanese influence? |

I'd challenge the assertion that Soma looks all that Japanese, and I definately hadn't though of Arikado's name sounding Japanese. Do you have an positive proof of that name being Japanese in nature? edit: Er...Arikado/Alucard IS Japanese. |

Arukādo is the Japanese spelling of Alucard. |

The thing about "Dracula belongs in plays and movies" is that the Castlevania Dracula isn't Vlad Tepes. Hell, he's much more of a demon than a vampire, anyways. ...of course, that's what bothers me the most about the series, but eh. Only the two latest portable games have anything to do with Japan, really. And they take place past the year 2000. After Dracula was finally defeated, and his castle was sealed in an eclipse. Which is why the two games take place in Japan. Not to mention the castle(vania?) is magical in nature and appears when Dracula comes back or somesuch. ...but if they had Soma (which could actually be pretty fun), having Dracula too would be... strange. (and, of course, all the Castlevania fans would bitch about the lack of Alucard) |

Not all of them. There's a HUGE split in the base base right now between the people who like the new style and the ones that like the old games, with Symphony being the dividing line in most cases. |

Well, the obsessive fans of the older games (who tend to bitch about the new games, story and being to easy) don't seem as prevalent as all of the more modern obsessive fan(girls) who are constantly drooling over Alucard. |

Except that Alucard is supposed to be the son of Dracula and a woman called Lisa. Since when has Lisa been a Japanese name?

Doesn't have to be an asian now. American names are becoming more popular for asian children. |
