I'll agree with you on that. But it's better than that Soma guy. |

They're still there, they're just not bosses anymore. At least, in the portable games. I havn't exactly played much of the more recent console ones, sans Curse of Darkness. As for CVIII (gah, I always think civilization instead of castlevania, even though that's abrevieated civ) Alucard... He has that retro feel, but I personally prefered Grant or Sypha, so he never really stuck for me. But I don't really have much of a problem with the Symphony Alucard, I just find it annoying in DoS when he reverts to medieval garb... in the future. waaaaaay baroned... |

~.~ I haven't even played the second game and I'm already tired of Soma. There is just no excuse for some random high school kid who's never had a fight in his life, kicking undead butt as well or better than a trained, experienced Belmont demon-slayer. |

I think thats his humourously high stats, which are presumably far abouve human normal, and stem from the evil power held in check within only by his kind personality. That said, I hate the character and his story, but DAYUMN if hsi abilities aren't fun. |

You know, I know the rest of you seem to disagree, but I like the newer games a lot more than the brutal platformers that were the old ones. I like not falling into inexplicable pits, I like exploration, I like getting more powerful by beating the crap out of other things. The games are more fun, and there's a lot more of a story than the old ones, even if it's not a particularly good one. And Curse of Darkness (one of the PS2 ones) was actually kinda fun, in my opinion. It played like a slower paced kingdom hearts, with zombies! Plus, Saint Germain was a pimp. |

Old and new are different series, really. TO enjoy one, you have to pretend the other doesn't exist. |

Cyrus, what's yur opinion on the classic Metroid games? I'm asking that because bascially that's what they've turned the Castlevania series into. |

Plot? Did you seriously just say plot? It's the same plot. Every time. Except with Soma, who would be excused if his plot wasn't so lame. "Dracula has been resurrected! We must kill him!" ~the plot of 98% of all Castlevania games. |

Alan: The comparison's been made before. Sure, they're both exploration games. But the dificulty, the abilities, the character... the style are all different. That being said, my only problem with the sidescrolling metroid games is that they keep kicking my ass. |

Plot of Soma games (aka other two percent) Soma must keep from going evil, but keep his power from falling into the wrong hands! baron;d |

I didn't say plot. But really, that's like saying the plot of all the star wars films is that they fight the empire. In the recent ones, with the larger sizes in space for the games, etc, they have room to add characterization. Something besides "you walk silently through the stages then kill dracula". Though they're all about fighting dracula, the recent ones actually have a story going on there. |

True. Like the whole "your friend has gone over to the dark side" subplot that seems to NEVER DIE, and the endless flirting and small talk in the Soma games. baron'd |

Well, Alucard's only kinda dead, and they're only spiritually, not biologically family. ...doesn't make it any less weird. |

I never really got into Alucard. There's just something about the son of Dracula who fights Dracula that feels...I don't know. It just doesn't appeal to me. And I love antiheroes. Yet I still don't really like him. |

That brings up an interesting question. WHat exactly is the vital status of a dhampire? Are they half-dead? Quarter dead? Undead and living at once? baron'd |

I gotta ask a question. What exactly makes an RPG an RPG? Because it seems in this day and age no one truly knows. |
