edit: to alpha ...well technically, every video game ever practically is a game where you play a role. But in the modern definition of the 'genre'... Well, I assume a lot of it involves the predominating theme. If it's the numbers and the battles, it's probably an RPG. It could still be considered an adventure game, or a platformer, or a sandbox game, or a strategy game... |

Actually, I'd assume that due to the fact that he can't die of old age, or sickness, life insurance companies would be fawning over him as a veritable goldmine. |

Yeah I've gotten that definition before, but I've also gotten other definitions and I'm trying to figure out if there really is one or just something we make up ourselves in this day and age of multigenre gaming. |

No, I mean he IS medically in a state of not complete living. The name change seems to be form based, though. He calls himself Alucard in "battle" form. triplebaron |

I'm pretty sure there isn't an exact, solid, unyielding definition for any of the genres. They just...play it by ear when labeling them, I think. What does it seem most like? |

The technical definition that I go with for the genre call RPG: You assume a role of a main character collecting friends as you go, PC or otherwise, or go along solo (thank you Quest 64) and fight battles in a sorta turn based battle system (ATB is included obviously) speed of the character is determined by predertimind speed stat (speed, dex, agil, soforth) not the reflexes a person would have in a platformer or full adventure game. |

Tetris! Seriously, while in most gams you may actually have items to collect, it's always a more obvious focus in RPG and your inventory builds up more. As far as talking, when I say that, I mean walking around talking to random people and interactiong with them outside of strict story scenes. |

But also by doing so still learn semi-clues on how to get certain items. |

Yeah that would be in RPGs. Heck it can even be done in D&D providing the DM is willing to work that much. |

Also, the items exist in text only, having no actual visible form, in most cases. WHen they do have a form, it is overshadowed by the name. |

Except in the case of games like the Elder Scrolls series, in which every piece of armor, every weapon, every item has its own physical form that you do see quite plainly. |

Well I had a big long pro and con thing typed up, but a keyboard error erased it. >_< Basically what it comes down to is this: Someone needs to keep that maniac Iga Kogarashi in check. He has a lot of good ideas, but he also has a lot of really bad ones (The new GBA title is going to be set in WWII and the hallocaust plays a role...WTF WHY DID YOU INVOLVE THE REAL WORLD WITH CASTLEVANIA?! DON'T YOU KNOW THE FIRST PERSON TO MENTION HITLER LOSES THE ARGUEMENT?!) I loved Aria of Sorrow... but why did it need to be a Castlevania game? Why not make it a new franchise? It's not like Konami doesn't have the cash to take a couple of failures. I think it didn't need to be a Castlevania game. Why didn't we get Julius' game? It's too typical? Come on, amnesia is a first for CV! It could've mirrored Symphony in a way... the opening part of the game was the pivotal fight against Dracula and the events that led to Julius losing his memory and wandering for many years... we could've seen things from his point of view, had maybe a 1/3 of the game taken up with the events of Aria , and then gone straight to the "julius mode" with helpers of Dawn of Sorrow... Except Julius should've been a girl. FUCK Igarashi and his "Sonya doesn't exsist because girls can't be heroes" attitude! That could've then twisted around (a love story between Soma and er, Julia?) and paralleled Sonya and Alucard's story in Castlevania: Legends! That would've been awesome! Whow, I had no idea I thought that. Guess I went off the deep-end. I'll go sulk now. and Vort thinks I have better ideas about CV than the game designers. Crazy bastard. |

I'd say you do. It'd also be realy nice to have some more Castlevania games set outside of the Castle. Maybe play it up like CV2 if you still want the exploration angle. have whoever-Belmont track across the countryside. I'm also rather upset that they're saying Vlad the Impaler wasn't the real Dracula. |
