Isn't the popular "cheap ass move" in FF7 Knights of the Round? Oh, and inso-far as ignoring the potential summon of supposed cheapness, the pure physical Cloud looks good too, judging by previous FF experience. Yes, I hate FF7, no I don't give a damn that he's talking about it or playing it. At least its in the right section, and theres nothing funny to say about it. Until the FF rating started kicking in, I didn't even have a reason to share that competing viewpoint. Anyways, I got nothing more to say on the topic since I've never bother to fully beat the game. |

What's with all the FF8 hate? It wasn't as good as six, but it sure as hell kicked FF9's ass. Except for Zell. All zell hate is totally deserved. |

You're just jealous that there's someone who out-thiefed you. ![]() As for Vincent, well... the Lucrezia stuff was eh. Shadow was still cooler. ![]() edit, to RTM
The system sucked (you pretty much get punished for leveling up.). The characters sucked. Squall was just another jaunt into the (bad idea) apathetic Cloud-like heroes. Selphie was lame, like... Yuffie without any of the redeeming characteristics. And not stealing your shit. The only player character I could stand was Irvine. The story sucked. The plot twists sucked, and wern't really affecting anything else in the game. (Oh noes! GFs are stealing our memories! Holy crap, we all grew up in the same orphanage, and then forgot about it because of the GFs! ...so...?) |

They really seemed to have a problem with randomly bringing up storylines, and then either solving them crappily, or not even resolving them, just letting them fester in the background like a pile of dead ideas and dreams. Also, the Magic system sucked out loud. |

Are you kidding? I loved the magic system. Nothing beat killing bosses in one hit. |

So, you want an RPG where you can beat the bosses easily? I'd reccomend you go try and find Shadow Madness. |

What? Drawing Magic was a huge pain in the ass on an epic scale. Running out of casts of a certain spell was just insane. |

Ok, I don't know when overpowered player attacks got associated with good gameplay, but if your looking for that FF6 has you covered. There must be like, half a dozen ways to OHKO bosses and shred monsters into paste. Economizer, double spell casting, the quick spell, quadruple hits, dual wielding, vanish/x-zone, vanish/doom, summons, wall rings. |

You didn't have to abuse it, but finding various ways to abuse it was fun as hell. Edit: OHKO bosses in FF6? You're slightly off. Every time I try the bosses are more likely to OHKO me. |

You're forgetting that horribly forced attempt at the Squall/Rinoa pairing. And that the game was more like FF Teen Drama County High or something. FF6 is still my most hated though. Or X-2. |

Ok, I'm going to need to hear a bit more about this bombshell. Even with FF5 and FF1, this comes out as the worst? |

Frankly, I'll admit it had potential. The bit where you play as everyone getting to Narshe was good. But a game that has a storyline completely halt after you get the airship back after the world's destruction simply isn't worth the praise it gets. Plus with the characters, most of them got all of two scenes before they were shoved back into practically NPC territory (with the exception of Terra, Locke, Celes and to an extent Edgar and Sabin, but not by much). There's also the magic system. When you have a magic system that allows your entire team to learn Ultima before level 30 you know something's wrong. Though I guess some of it stems from people that say FF6 is the Holy Grail of RPGs when looking down on FF7 when there's really not much special about it. EDIT: Yeah, I hate Kefka, but not for the same reasons. He's really a poorly developed villain. He just appears to do something that feels like Square are telling you "KEFKA'S A BASTARD! I HATE HIM AND SO DO YOU!" rather than actually giving any establishment as to his motives. |

I don't care that you don't like FF6, but to say it's your most hated when 5 exists is just cruel. |

Yes, I certainly didn't just criticize FF6 at all. Insofar as RPGs go I happen to list various other RPGs above FF6 too. I do think its much much better than the rest of the FFs and I especially hate FF7. Purely based on plot, theres not much to speak of regarding gameplay. |

FF5... those guys were clueless. X-Death could be standing in front of them with a rocket launcher aimed point-blank at his head with a neon sign saying "Please kill me, Dawn Warriors" above him and they'd screw it up. Juron: I'm listing my problems with FF6, not attacking people who do like it. Frankly I don't mind if people like it, just so long as they aren't treating it like the Holy Grail. EDIT again: To go more in-depth. It's one thing to like FF6 and say it's your favourite in the series. That's fine, everybody has their tastes. It's another to claim it as the greatest RPG of all time with no flaws or problems, the best story, music, battle system, characters etc and can never be bettered by any game ever like a lot of FF6 fans do (nobody on here, far as I know). |

What about Cyan. He only had his whole family killed, gets to visit their ghosts on the ghost train. Ends up living in another town, on a hill writing letters and didn't he learn engineering(he's originally not good with technology)? Further has to deal with the dead spirits of the castle on a return trip. Or Shadow. He's totally without background. Certainly selflessly sacrificing himself twice over, or the dream sequences, they don't count? Setzer seems to have enough plot around him as to make various return appearances. If the whole Opera thing/airship rivalry thing didn't do it for ya. Decent, at least he's not a blank right? Relm and Strago didn't get much room in the spotlight, I'll admit. They were more analogous to Shadows story. Their ending scene was funny though. Mog and Umaru and Gogo were hidden characters, and only mog can be gotten in WoB so they didn't have much background at all. |

The story is still the best I've seen in a game to date. MGS3 would be my second runner up (Best characters ever), but the story of FFVI will always be first (Which may be Fanboyism from it being my first RPG, or senility covering up the mistakes in a game I haven't played in over half a decade, but I stand by it). The characters, considering the number, actually get a considerable amount of face time. There are frequent "Everyone meet up" events where all the characters get to weigh in on events, and each character pretty much has their own adventure that covers backstory and personality well before you get them (As well as the Dead World storylines you go on that usually reveal even more), and even in NPC status after these events, I've seen RPGs with much fewer characters that give their characters less personality. Fuck, Umaro and Gogo have more personality then half the cast of Chrono Cross. It's not perfect (I agree that the fact that the plot just sort of stops after getting 4 people in your party in the World of Ruin was a bad, clumsy move), but I still rate it as my favorite game to date. |
