Illusion of Gaia was pretty good... But I said I DON'T want to see a Zelda definition adventure clone... I want a SCUMMy Money Island, Maniac Mansion, Sam and Max, Full Throttle adventure with maybe some FF, or CT style battles thrown in for good measre.

IoG didn't really have a tool system, ergo I fail to see its connection with Zelda.

Luppy, I had high hopes for the Zelda series, and I still think theres good things about it in the puzzles, but it is horribly imagination deficient as far as the battle application of the various tools. Battle in Zelda is a bit TOO straightforward and easy. The concept has high hopes, but I'm forced to admit that we as humans may not be able to meet the vision that Zelda adheres to.

edit: actually I argue with that myself. Windwaker introduced the action command system, which is refined and also used in Kingdom Hearts. I believe the KH version is superior, but Nintendo went first. THEIVERY AGAIN! YAY!

Anyways, further elaboration of that system, providing COMBINATIONS that result in DIFFERENT counters to DIFFERENT attacks could create a very usefull simon says system.

Hey I have to listen to you guys talk about 10 year old FF all the time!

Also that's why you'll never be a successful comedian, you can be the funniest guy in the world, but at some point someone will realize "Wait...does this guy like Zelda?" and that's when they will turn on you!

Edit: Also Beyond Good and Evil isn't a Zelda clone, but uses the Zelda style greatly.

She told me it was Spanish, called me a pissant, and hung up the phone.

Paraphrasing some lady calling to Nintendo to complain about the dinosaur talk in that game...

Crystalis. Crystalis. Crystalis.

Crystalis is the best game ever.

Excellent example. However I would imagine Crystalis would be more action-oriented at the expense of being puzzle-oriented. Also has rpg influences.

Puzzles hadn't become a huge part of Zelda at that point. There was only the first two NES games.

With that one I always just equipped the Water Ring and waited for it to run out of MP.

Oh, I had the Water Ring, just to learn Aqua Lung. And with Big Guard, she did almost no damage anyways.

EDIT: Also, Rapps was paralyzed somewhere between Blade Beam, Boost Jump, and Seal Evil. I still don't know what happened, or how I got so lucky.

Cid/Barrett (Warrior)- Deathblow (Added Cut), elemental offensive magic (Elemental) [elements will vary], Counter Attack, HP Plus, Odin.

Tifa (Monk)- Slash All (Final Attack), Speed Plus, Double Cut (HP Absorb), Titan, Kjata.

Cloud (Paladin)- Restore (All), Life, Phoenix (Final Attack), Comet (Magic Counter), Cover, Heal, HP Plus, Alexander.

Red XIII (Mage/Summoner)- Master Summon (MP Absorb), Contain, Earth, Fire, Ice, Lightning, Quadra Magic: Ultima, Magic Plus, Mega All, W Summon.

Yuffie/Vincent (Ninja)- Steal, Bio (Added Effect), Time, Throw (Steal As Well), Gil Plus, Pre-emptive, Speed Plus, Hades.

Cait Sith (Blue Mage)- Manipulate, Enemy Skills, Enemy Lure, HP Plus, Transform.

Let's review how my party's doing right now. Soon as I get back to the world map or a save point, I'm equipping my characters with their class-materia, and adding stuff to that for a bit. Final party looks to be Cloud, Cait Sith, and Red. Supplemented by Tifa, Barret, and Vincent.

Materia I have so far:

Cid/Barrett (Warrior)- Deathblow, elemental offensive magic (Elemental) [elements will vary], Odin.

Tifa (Monk)- Titan, Kjata.

Cloud (Paladin)- Restore (All), Life, Comet, Counter Attack (HP Absorb), Cover, Heal.

Red XIII (Mage/Summoner)- Bahamut (MP Absorb), Earth, Fire, Ice, Lightning, Ramuh, Shiva, Ifrit.

Yuffie/Vincent (Ninja)- Steal, Bio (Added Effect), Time, Throw, Leviathan.

Cait Sith (Blue Mage)- Manipulate, Enemy Skills, Transform.
