Ahh, NPCs, not as good as villains, but still good, and making an "Alternate Viewpoint" game about them is much more original. Doesn't it sometimes seem that things that are "Cliche", are more original these days? |

Actually, the idea I'm having for it is a lot more... Complicated. Should be fun to write, but first, I wonder what sort of system I'll make for it. Anyway...The battle system is nothing too special. If you've played a FF game, then you'll kinda get this one fairly quickly. The only real addition is that how long before an action is performed depends on what command has been entered. Simple. The equip system is nothing special either. Whatever equipment a character has on alters their current skillset and vulnerability to elements. Simple. This also means, of course, that I can have various equipment which alter stats the same exact way but give very different bonuses. But I'm now wanting to make a slight change to both systems to make them more unique. Do you think this will be necessary? |

Well, if you think so... Anyway, I'm working on a demo for the game. The first town is finished aside from the NPCs, and I just need to finish off that, the shops, and the first dungeon. Then I intend to email the .exe file for the demo to people on here that want to test it out. |

Well, I can't think of anything to really add to it. I was hoping that either people seemed happy with the system or could suggest something to add to it. And yes. I do require far more validation than is healthy. Working on dealing with that psychological problem. |

I think you should use the system where you have gear, and... and... and the gear has STATS... and the stats make the character wearing the gear stronger... *shot* Ow! <.< Anyway... don't worry about it too much. Making the equipment system of the game too complicated or different can make the game unique in annoying ways. Concentrate on what you think will make the game fun, not just what will make it different from other games. |

Here's some ideas you may or may not want to try for the battle system. Ditch MP: Have magic spell take HP directly from the caster or an ally Have two methods of casting spells for various characters: Have certain spellcasteers that use gestures and others that use spoken worlds. Have different status effects to change how the two systems play. Have a characters attack power and speed go down as they take damage in a fight. The more messed up they are, the harder it is for them to contnue to battle. |

Well, thanks for the support, guys. I'll keep it as it is for the demo and see what people think then. Although, to be honest, I did kinda like one of Alans suggestions. The thing about a characters strength having a direct effect on their combat ability. It would probably be percentage based. The exact mechanics I would need to think carefully about. |
