Tier lists are inherently flawed as people just have different playing styles. I personally SUCK with Falcon. I personally have yet to lose with DK. A friend of mine pwns with Ness. Its all about playing styles and finding a character that fits them.

Jewthulu I recogonize that they are far from a perfect tool.

That doesn't mean the characters are automatically balanced, its trivially easy to create a situation where a character is darn right overpowered. We should still do the best we can to balance things, and right now SSBM is just not as balanced as SSB.

edit: word order transposition sheesh.

True. But tiers are not nearly so clear cut. Unbalancing does exist, but only in the form of characters that are easy to master, like Old Kirby or Fox, or hard to master, like Yoshi or Ness or any of the Pokemon but Mewtwo.
They aren't better, just easier.

I disagree.

How would that work in a game like MKDS where powersliding and snaking clearly favour certain characters that can actually maintain mushroom item level speed indefinately for free? Hell theres a bug that allows them to do it and go off course.

There are things like that in SSB. Wave dashing + slow moving characters + more priority = there are situations where a character could attack you and you'd have no chance to defend.

edit:
I WILL agree that difficulty curve balancing is another thing all together, but equally important.

edit2: I just thought of something!

How will he look any different than Meta-Knight? MT is only a Kirby in a mask, after all.

I was more concerned with what ability he might get from him.

I know. But...
Wouldn't that just be a repeat of Link-Kirby?

I'm going to roll right over the tier arguement for the moment, because I've had a good day, and I don't want to end it screaming at people.

That said, I picked up two games today, Pokemon Ranger and FFXII. I've not even opened XII yet, so that's a story for another day, Pkmn Ranger on the other hand...

Makes me feel like a complete tool for buying it, so far. The core mechanic of the game essentially consists of drawing *circles* around Pokemon. Then making them do you bidding once, before having to find *another* of that same Pokemon, and drawing circles around them again.

Le sigh.

I dunno, I'm not too far in, and whether it's good or not is really a moot point, as I *have* to play through to get my Manaphy Egg to transfer to D/P.

Still, I hope this doesn't end up with "I spend $35 just for a freaking Manaphy Egg".

Actually, I've been hearing positive things about Final Fantasy 12 so far. I've yet to play it, but then again, I had no problem with X or X-2, so I doubt I'll have any problem with this one.
There used to be an image here telling you to vote, but then Photobucket, the image site made to allow you to do third party hosting, no longer allows third party hosting without throwing a shitload of money at them... and I can barely afford to eat. So no you get some text of me bitching about it, yaaay! Also, go vote.

Bah. Bah I say. I miss the days when the final battles were a challenge, there was a world map to walk around on, the characters were interesting, nonannoying, nonfanservicy and engaging, and cutscenes and other such nonparticipatory game elements were a bare minimum.
Damn kids.

FF has been making the transition to not-game since the begining.

Why bother worrying anymore?

I just wish that the creators of the recent FF games and I could agree at all on what constitutes 'clothing'.

I believe theirs is "a cloth based substance that coverse the nipples, reproductive organ, and at least 3/5 of the ass crack".
baron'd
And I wish they would learn the difference between how males and females look. And 3, 4, and 5 were all perfect, enough nongame to have a wonderful story and great humor, but just that much. No more than 5% of any of them was nonplayable. 6 was a little to far down the road for comfort, though it was still enjoyable, and 9 was essentially turning back and saying goodbye to those left by the side of the road when they left Nintendo.

Yes, but I did love what Something Awful said about Tidus's outfit.

Zack: This image is almost overwhelming. It's like someone hand-designed a costume to be so ridiculous that it would overpower us. I don't even know what to call most of the garments he is wearing. A frontless quarter shirt? Leather overhalfs? A third of pants?

Dr. Thorpe: I think the person who designed him just looked at stupid teenagers for a while and wrote down all the things that might piss you off about their clothes. Big nu-metal shorts? Check. Stupid wallet chain that's not connected to anything? Check. One pant-leg rolled up? Rubber goth corset? Check. He's a mixed-media idiot. He combines idiocy from all forms of idiot.

Zack: Yeah, I think he even has a tribal tattoo or some sort of graffiti tag on his pants. With team uniforms like this it's no wonder that Blitzball never quite took off in the United States.

And he has all the annoying personality quirks of teenagers too!
Daddy complex, whiney emoboyness, grating voice, stupidity, self-centredness, hormonally driven...

Have I been wrogn about him this whole time? I've dismissed him as just being a stupid character, but could Tidus in fact be the uber teenager? The very imbodyment of teenager-ness?

I hope not.

I'm still freaked by the fact that he shares a voice actor with Captain Jack Sparrow.

I demand to see a link to that review/skit/whatever Alan. Okay, I don't really demand it, but I would very much like to see it.

Oh, look, an in-depth preview of Twilight Princess.

What's been irking me about FFXII thus far is the fact that you have to buy EVERYTHING. Spells, techniks, armor, weapons, and supplies. Hell, you even have to buy commands for auto-battling (Gambits, though it isn't a bad thing). This is very overwhelming if you ask me. On that same note, it also seems harder to get gil as well.
