But how would you even do Heavily Armed Pokey? His whole Spider-Mech frame is pretty big, I'd say bigger (Or at least wider) then Bowser. It would be pretty awkward. If they were going to add another EB character, the only one I could see fitting is Poo. Sword attacks for main, PK Starstorm (Barrage of exploding psi-blasts) and Mirror (Turn into another character, sort of like Kirby except a full transformation until canceled) as special abilities. Jeff would be too much like Snake (IE, a gadget based character), and I can't see a move set for Paula that really works... |

Paula's moves: B: Psi Freeze. B Side: Psi fire. Mostly the same as Ness's, but stronger and a larger radius. Psi fire *was* originally meant as an attack to hit people in rows. B down: Psi Shield- Same as Ness's, pretty much. B up: Psi Thunder. I want to change this from Ness's version, but I'm not exactly sure how. Thoughts: Maybe replace a move or two with Psi-offense up. Also, I think that they should make Ness's moveset a bit more true to himself. Take away PK fire, thunder, and magnet; and instead give him back Psi Rockin', Teleport, and Lifeup. Ness is like, the first time the first character in an RPG where you can't choose their class was designed for healing, and I think they should give that back to him. Ness not being able to heal is like... Kirby not being able to spit stars. Other choices are hypnosis and paralysis. However, if they include Paula, she's probably just going to be a Ness clone with weaker physical attacks and stronger specials. |

Ehh? I thought Paula was for healing (What with Pray and it's random healing effects), Ness was usually my bruiser since he had the highest stats in... Pretty much everything. However, I agree that taking away his signature move was crap. I'm hoping it's returned in Brawl as his Super Move. |

No. Ness had Psi Lifeup and Healing as moves... Poo got them too, but much later. The only way for Paula to heal at all was to use pray, and that was unreliable, as that wasn't the only thing it did... I remember using pray once just for the hell of it, and my entire party became confused. I think it resulted in a TPK, or at least close to it. Pray's like Metrenome from Pokemon, except it doesn't discern between targets at all; friend or foe. No, Ness's role is a Paladin: Strong offensive AND healing moves. Paula was a blaster-type: she had the most offensive spells (At least until Poo learned Starstorm... Strangely enough, I never used that move.) Ness never learned fire, freeze, magnet, or lightning in Earthbound. (Can't talk about Mother, never played that one.) |

Damn, been to long since I played. I recall mostly using items to heal, and having Ness use PK Rockin' and melee any chance he got, while Poo used PK Starstorm and melee. I think I used Paula's abilities sporadically since I try to preserve PK/MP in games for bosses or really nasty enemies. |

It would not surprise me if M-09, the protagonist from Project HAMMER, is a new Brawl character. They're both listed as "2007" release dates, so it could be a tie-in thing. |

Ehh, a bit odd if they did. Nintendo prefers to put in characters with some sort of history or background (Even if they aren't always their characters, as the arrival of Snake shows). Putting in a completely new character with no history would seem a silly move. |

Wasn't Roy's FE game released around the same time as Melee? Anyways, I was reading the wiki article on MGS: The Twin Snakes when I came across this:
... SONUVABITCH! I did things the obvious and old-fashioned way! Also, this might be of interest to MGS fans with a PSP. |

Uhh, no? The first Fire Emblem game for the GBA (I don't know if it has Roy or not) was released in 2002. SSBM was released in 2001. |

I'm pretty sure he was a recurring character in FE. It was around the same time as his US appearance though. edit: sonnova... nevermind... |

Oh, the next time I close the wrong tab, I'm gonna... Rrr. Anyways, I was just poking around Wikipedia, which is a pretty reliable source for geeks (the main people who would update Wikipedia), if not for actual scholars. Roy was first introduced in Fire Emblem 6. It was released in March 2002 in Japan, according to Wikipedia. Super Smash Bros. Melee was released in November 2001 in Japan, a scant four months before FE6's release. So, it seems to me that the timing is incredibly fortuitous to make a name for Roy before he stars in his own game. They could pull a similar move with M-09 and Project HAMMER. EDIT: Additional information from Wikipedia's Roy page, in the Trivia section:

A different interpretation of the moves actually yields a game consistant list for Ness, even if this isn't the popular way to name them. ^B pk HAMMER(what Ness is saying), otherwise known as PK SPECIAL, or Rockin'. B pk flash, this make sense because its ALSO what Ness says. >B pk THUNDER, Ness has this. vB pk shield. edit: Hammer is a possible default name for Rockin'. If you merely press "default" twice when choosing your favorite thing, you will get Hammer instead of Rockin'. So this move, hammer, is actually rockin'. Man I get tired of repeating this point. Someone else carry this damn torch for me, will you? |

Dood, Kirby is 8 inches tall and normal Bowser should be the size of Giga Bowser to the humanoid characters. Scale doesn't matter. |

GJ, read my above post and see what I did there? Technically I abused canonical order in order to remain constistent, but nevertheless I used canonical material for that interpretation and I think to some extent theres obvious reasons each of those moves should be those things. That little blue ball looks nothing like a magnet, the giant green explosion looks NOTHING like thunder, and for gods sakes its a z shaped bolt of lightning... its lightning. Thats been wrongly translated since the original Smash, it needs to STOP. |
