Should be interesting to see them when you're done. Might even be able to put them to use around here somehow, make an RPG based on the forum or something.

Right now I'm working on physical manifestation levels, starting with looking just like you did when you died, save for being translucent, and working up through appearance altering and things like invisibility, to eventual form alteration.

Final level is big and scary. Like taking on the appearance of a 30 foot dragon with smoke spewing from its nostrils and saliva dripping from its sharp, vicious fangs.

Sounds about right. Ghosts are mostly about visions, illusions, and trickery, not really strong in the direct attack/effect powers.

There.

0/0 Level 1 - Alter clothing
0/10 Level 2 - Small physical changes, such as cat ears or removing wrinkles, or slight age differences
0/20 Level 3 - Large age differences
0/30 Level 4 - Temporary solidity
0/40 Level 5 - Become small animals
0/50 Level 6 - Temporary camouflage
0/60 Level 7 - Become other people and similar sized beasts
0/70 Level 8 - Become large animals
0/80 Level 9 - Temporary invisibility
0/90 Level 10 - Become huge (size limit 40 feet), frightening monstrosities

So I guess a ghost is always visable in some way, even if it's see through.

And these would be really easy to get to the max level fast... Just constantly cahnge clothes and appearance, and you could be at level 10 in a day or so.

At higher levels, it can turn invisible.

>_> And yes, that is a good point. Hmm....

Perhaps make it so that the highest level of transformation you can do is the only one that counts for that purpose, and it takes effort and energy?

Hmm...I like that idea, Mordy. The effort and energy aspect is definitely going in. The higher levels aspect, is...difficult, however, to work with. It needs to come up somewhere, but I'm not sure quite where to have it. I don't see the ghost turning into small animals 50 times to reach its next level, for example, the others should help, but to a lesser extent. *rubs forehead* This will take work.

If you use it in a dice based system, make the rolls to use your highest skill tricky so you won't be able to pull it off often. And if it is diceless, then make it so every period of time after you do it, you have to wait again, which drops as you gain more levels. At level 2 you could make a small adjustment maybe once a day, but by level 6 you could use your level 2 powers anytime you want with no wait.

EDIT: In response to last posts, but still sort of on topic.

Expand the number of points required for the higher levels. More difficult types of tranformation give more points than lower-level ones.

Since I'd like to avoid bringing an MP system into play, I'll probably go with FZ's idea for the time/energy. And for experience, hmm...perhaps the AP given is proportionate to the level of technique used, and like Mordy said, I'll expand the amounts of AP required.

I am sorry for the double post, but I wanted to get opinions on this.

Every skill takes an amount of energy to use. Current level takes 10 points out of 50. Previous level requires 7 points. Two levels back is 5 points. Three levels back is 3 points. Any further is free. Next level technique may be used, for 30 points.

Double post forgiven. :P

That sounds good to me! I like how they *can* use the next level technique, but for a hefty cost...

Sounds like a plan, although you might want to tweak it some for different skills (Maybe shifting form takes a bit less then physical powers). And when/how does Energy restore?

Skills have been given asterisks.

*Temporary manifestation effects last only for 30 seconds (translateable in close-action, such as conversation, combat, etc. as 10 posts), and the energy must be paid a second time to avoid it wearing off.

**Manipulation effects last for 10 seconds, and then must be reused to avoid wearing off. This can be bad if the ghost is holding an object, and it wears off.

***Possession skills are in constant effect. However, damage inflicted to the possessed object will expel the ghost unless it reuses the skill.

Alright, I have finished the Energy regen rate. Now,

Sleep restores Energy to full. A good meal restores 20 points. A snack restores 5 points. Inactivity restores 2 points per hour.

Now, as Ghost is immune to food :P, and I haven't decided on sleep yet, it obviously has poor regen capacities. This is a problem, ain't it? Being intangible, it is forced to rely solely on Energy skills. Which is why it has this.

ENERGY DRAIN**
0/0 Level 1 - 2 points
0/10 Level 2 - 4 points
0/20 Level 3 - 6 points
0/30 Level 4 - 8 points
0/40 Level 5 - 10 points

**Energy Drain has no Energy cost to use. It steals Energy from the victim by pressing the Ghost’s hands into the victim’s body and leeching it, restoring it to the Ghost. If the victim does not break the ghost’s hold, the effect may be held for longer, to steal more energy. Both hands are required for full effect. One hand for half effect. Hands must be completely submerged in victim’s body. Leeching is an unreliable strategy, and the Ghost may instead form a symbiosis with an ally, both restoring an equal amount of Energy, but only for half effect.

What is the person being leeched aware of when the ghost does this?

They're aware by the fact their energy is dropping. That means something's happening. And they'll probably notice the ghost unless invisibility is in effect.

Probably a cold feeling of the ghost itself, and a feeling of losing energy or becoming more tired suddenly.
