You know the feeling you get when you miss that easy jump, land four stories below, and die? Imagine that feeling while your party watches you, and laughs at your ghost. Not that I would know... |

To try and turn this into sort of an all purpose "P&P RPG" thread as well... I'm currently playing Baldur's Gate 1 on my first run through, and I've been trying to figure out what I should be doing to make a good char. I currently have a Level 4 Human Fighter that I plan on Dual-Classing into a Mage around level 6 or 7. I figure with the 161,000 XP cap, I should be able to get a level 7-8 Mage, and by Endgame my Mage Levels will surpass Fighter and I can get the bonuses of both classes. My question is, is this smart? I plan on taking this character all the way to Throne of Bhaal where characters have classes around 30. My Stats are: STR: 18/56 DEX: 10 CON: 18 INT: 18 WIS: 12 CHA: 11 My original plan was that with the beginning levels in Fighter, it would make my mage a bit beefier and less frail, so that while he couldn't go toe to toe with the enemy, he also wasn't forced to stay in the back or die. If he ran out of magic, he could do some melee damage as well. Also I figured that with the change being early enough, it wouldn't hurt him in the long run and he would still be a kickass mage. So, any comments from the more knowledgable D&D crowd? |

Curse you D&D! Your gaming system taunts me with my hatred and lack of understanding of it... And yes, BG is 2nd edition, and BG 2 is 2.5 Edition I believe. |

*Eyes bulge* That character is...impressive, FZ. With three eighteens, most impressive. I should warn you, though: dual-classing is really, really hard to do in 2nd Edition. It's one of the things that I felt 3rd Edition improved on vastly. Usually, you had to give up most of the useful abilities of your old class for as many levels as your possessed in it in order to do it. (ie.: A Fighter6/Mage would lose most of his Fighter abilities until he reached level 6 Mage) The system reams characters with more than one class, although Fighters get hit less hard than most. I don't know how BG handled it, though...the system there differed subtly from the normal tabletop rules. His 18 Con will serve him well in any situation, although for a wizard, any Con above a 15 is kind of a waste of time...their Con bonuses to HP capped out there. The 18 strength will help in the beginning, and rapidly become useless when you start spellcasting, while the 18 Int is necessary for any spellcaster who intends to reach the 17th level required for Wish. The other stats are meh, but the three 18's alone are unbelievably good for a 2E character. I recommend swapping him out of Fighter a little earlier though: Part of the Dual-Class Dilemma is that you're held back in your spell advancement, a slow process in any situation, whereas most of the Fighter's advantages, like weapon and armor proficiencies come after but a single level. It's also easier to recoup from the loss of your first class if you swap quick. Of course, alternately, you could just keep all the other characters protecting him between 7th and 12th level. |

The three 18s came from a LOT of re-rolling stats, as the BG Games let you re-roll an unlimited number of times... But that is a possibility. The only real reason I planned on keeping him as a Fighter was for the bonus HP he would get in the long run, but what he has now should be good. And I have noticed with my other spellcaster, who is a specialist but is lacking in spells at level 3, that it is going to take a long time to get up to the better spells like Fireball... Next time I power it up, I'll mess around with equipment and make the switch. Thanks for the help. |

Well luckily I hate most "Real Otaku", so AS works just fine for me! Plus I don't think AS has run an Anime yet I haven't liked... Except for Wolf's Run, I hate that show... |

*agrees with FZ* All the anime on AS so far has been stuff I either really like, or just find watchable, except for WR. Hey, anyone remember the old AS? You know, the one where it was just the "uncut" versions of the shows that ran on Toonami at the time? |
