If you want that badly, don't wait. I, however, am patient. Plus I don't want to pay that much for that which is clearly crap.

Mine works just fine as well, Forever Zero. It's about... four years old now. I got it for Christmas back in 2001. Best. Christmas. Ever.
There used to be an image here telling you to vote, but then Photobucket, the image site made to allow you to do third party hosting, no longer allows third party hosting without throwing a shitload of money at them... and I can barely afford to eat. So no you get some text of me bitching about it, yaaay! Also, go vote.

I got mine... Four years sounds about right. I got it shortly after moving to Florida, so it's 3-4 years old by now, and I've never had a problem.

EDIT: That's okay Randy, we hate you too. :P

It's the early model design. There was a flaw in the early PS2's that caused the disc reader to burn itself out. Burns itself out REALLY FAST if you watch DVD's. >_>

This flaw was fixed in later models. But those of us who have early models are out of luck.

Heard about that at Best Buy one day. Glad I haven't been watching many movies on mine...

Am I the only person with a PS2 that has never had a problem once?

Nope. I've never had a problem with mine. (knock on wood). My PS1 died though.

Which is yet another reason I support Xbox. I can watch DVD's on my Xbox without killing it.

Mine has been used for DVDs quite a bit... for awhile, it was the only DVD player in the house. I notice the sound is rather low with it, but it's always been like that.
I heard about the first run being shite, though. That's why I'm glad I never buy consoles when they first come out. (What do ya know... a benefit for being broke most of the time!)

I prefer using a DVD player, myself.

And my PS1 itself didn't die, but I had a Memory Card for PS1 that died. Took a TON of info with it... So horrible...

My DVD player itself died, and the PS2 had been out for a while. I wanted a PS2. So my parents and I split the cost of a used one 50-50. It became the family DVD player. If what you say is true, they must have been selling a used first run. Bastards.

I never understood the appeal of DVD game consoles. Sure it's a nice option, but I already have a DVD-rom in my computer, and a DVD player...

My family disn't go for the DVD-rom option, (it coste extra), and the DVD player died. It sounded like such a good idea at the time...
