I fully agree that Halo was the game that pulled the X-Box's ass out of the fire, BUT it shouldn't have been there in the first place.... |

No, because before the X-Box appeared it was going to be a PC game..... Which may have saved us from another badly done console conversion. |

Ah, gotcha. Which begs the question, had it be a PC only game would it have been just as popular? |

The buzz surrounding it before it swapped was astonishing, so I've got a good feeling the answer is yes. That combined with the amount of shit kicked up when we "lost" it.... |

One reason the virtual reality type setup made me drool was that it could finally get us away from TV and computer screens. With a lot of 3d, fast paced games... I feel like I am suffering tunnelvision. Things sneak up on the corners of your vision where you would be able to catch it in real life. A common problem is being shot at and not being able to figure out where the shots are coming from until you are dead or near dead. Cut two eyeholes in a paper bag, put it on, and go into a gunfight. That is what it is like. |

I think you're going to have to wait a while before that sort of thing is marketable hec..... theres been a few forays into that sort of thing and most of its been an abysmal failure. To top it off, you'd have a hard time convincing developers to swap to that sort of thing, because you would lose a large audience in doing so. |

Then take the basic idea and modify it. Keep the good parts like the VR setup and give it a more conventional (but improved and refined) control setup. You should be able to get rid of a portion of the geekyness while letting the player sit down. The geeks that came up with the hoax should be hired on the spot. |

Halo is vastly overrated. It isn't a bad game, but there are lots of games that do it better for other systems, in my opinion at least. Wireless is nice, but overrated. I've got a full set of GC Wireless Remotes, but most of them have hiccups and problems that can put you at a disadvantage in the middle of a game if a remote cuts off suddenly, or buttons don't work right, and they eat up batteries. Wires can be annoying, but I prefer the stability, since none of my wireless remotes have had a problem so far and don't cut off in the middle of a game... And the only game that could convince me to get an X-Box would be Steel Battalion. Want that game so bad... I would have put Fable on that list too, except I learned recently they are working on an improved version for the PC they're going to release before the end of the year. |

...if the PC version is anything like the Xbox version, FZ, prepare to be utterly disappointed. Fable promises many things and fails to live up to all of them. |

I've heard they are adding 30% more though, and making many improvements. Maybe I'm just getting my hopes up for a big dissapointment, and it wasn't a big article (It was a small article in PC Gamer where they were summing up highlights of games in development, and mentioned the new Fable Upgraded version for the PC in development), but it sounds like they're overhualing it to try and make it closer to what they promised... |

They have a lot of work ahead of them in order to do that. If they can manage, though, it may be worth checking out. |

I'm inclined to agree with Terra. Fable was...ah...disappointing at best. 30% more (assuming the estimate isn't inflated, which they usually are) only brings it up to about 16 hours of gameplay, and said gameplay gets pretty repetitive after awhile... I will let somebody else be the chump to buy it this time. |

Perhaps if the Good-Evil system actually meant something other than how meaningless NPC's react to you, that might have helped. Or if the romance system wasn't so...pointless and contrived. |

with Fable you gotta understand, Peter molyneux's vision for the game was frickin huge. It would have taken years in development to get it the way he pictured it. And I doubt anyone is going to wait around for years for the game. Lets ask all the people still anxiously awaiting duke nukem forever. at least this way they have room to improve on with a sequal since the first was such a big seller. |

It was only a big seller because of the hype of what it was MEANT to be, or COULD have been, but not because of the game itself. Or so I've heard, I don't actually have the game, so I might be wrong. |

Glorfindel is correct. They promise so much, and they have two options. Either spend more time so that they can actually deliver what they promised, building anticipation and finally unleashing a true masterpiece upon the world...or put it out now and let it be utter crap. They chose the latter. And it was a huge seller, because everyone believed it would be the former. There are many who will not be so stupid the next time. |
