That is why with Fortress you have to steal a Tower or Dungeon early so you can buff out your weak magic. But if you start with one of the others and steal a fortress, it makes a good addition for some of the units it has.

MFD highlights the greatest thing about using the Tower castles... Damn those Master Gnomes rocked in hordes...

I never used Inferno much. Their units always felt too frail, and like they didn't do much damage. However, if you got one of the Grails and got it back to your your castle so that every week was Week of the Imp, you could get a nasty Imp Horde in very short order...

I always liked Dungeon or Tower. Dungeon because they had the Black Dragon, Tower because of Titans.

I like Tower. Why? Easy. Solmyr. :P Yes, I'm cheap...

(For those who aren't quite so obsessed about Tower, that's Chain-Lightning-specialty-boy...)

You know, I never used him much, or Chain Lightning (It always seemed too weak). Did he give it that big a boost?

Well, considering he had it at first level, that really helped... he was a good magic user overall (Expert Air Magic is an absolute necessity for just about ANYONE...), and one that can really kill things even early, soo... probably, yes. :P

I always preferred Fire Magic skills. Armageddon, hooooooo!

Thanks for the info though. I'll need to pay more attention to him next time I find my copy of HoMM3...

Armageddon is only good if you make yourself immune to it... I prefer Air and Earth Magic. Fly/Dimension Door/Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning, Town Portal/Meteor Swarm/Implosion. Whoo!

edit: Mass Haste! WHOO redux!

edit dos: Water magic for Mass Bless and Prayer, too!

Inferno is crap on ranged attacks. The only ranged attacker they have is the Magog. They make up for this, however, by being quite dangerous in close quarters, and having the speed to get within range. I speak of Cerberus, who lashes out at the enemy and every enemy next to the enemy. The efreeti, who can fly and have an automatic Fire Shield. The Arch Devils, who can teleport just about anywhere on the battlefield.

And I loved Xyron, for his Inferno specialty. >.> The spell, not the faction.

I prefer the direct damage spells of Fire, not as much the buff spells of the other schools, although powers like Fly and Dimension Door WERE damn useful...

Air's direct damage was just as good as fire, and Earth was better for Implosion ALONE... fire had bloodlust and a few decent buff spells, but overall I vastly prefer air. Kinda annoys me that fire is so weak, really.

True, Fire does get the short end of the stick...

... But it's Fire, damnit! How can I not say it's my favorite? Even though it's totally nerfed in comparison to the others, it's still my school of choice, although I did learn playing other factions that all schools have at least a few very useful spells.

Easy.

Fire is weak. Say it with me... fire... is... weak. :P

And I have a friend who plays Inferno. Favorite hero? The one with specialty: Gogs.

...they hurt so bad... *cries*

Never! I shall never say such a thing!

Especially when someone could recall it and use it out of contex later against me... >.>

I preferred that Tower guy that got the bonus to Master Goblins. You get 200 of the little guys together and throw with that guy, and they could decimate high level monsters easy...

Gremlins, not goblins, and yes that guy was good too, but not 'till higher level...

And Terra, I counter with:

Earth:

Mass Slow
Mass Stoneskin/Shield
Meteor Swarm/Implosion
Town Portal

Gremlins, not goblins

Same difference... Their both little short people that suck in low numbers...

but Master Gremlins are range, and that quite possibly makes them the best first-level unit in the game... Centaurs are decent for speed, I guess...

Nah, Gremlin's still beat them. In large numbers, they can devestate hordes of enemy units without much trouble, and set them up with an Ammo Cart and defend them with troops, and you have a nasty weapon against any enemy.

... Hmm, you know, those golems would be useful for that. Why did I never think of that before?
