Yay!

Good game. Dated graphics... but honestly, it doesn't NEED better ones.

Yeah, PC. And the system requirements are nothing.

Nothing? Seriously? So minimal that I don't even need a PC to play?

Just kidding. :P

Is it so old that I'm going to have hell on earth trying to find it, though?

Yes. Yes you will.

Try Home of the Underdogs is my best advice. If you can't find it there, then may God have mercy upon your soul finding it...

Think I might have seen it at Gamestop.

They're really nice about stuff there.

Why did Fortress suck? Easy. Only got up to a level three mage guild. *twitch*

*Blink* *Blink*

Yes.... right. Gnolls are one of the stronger level one units.

Wyverns Poison attacks are deadly.

Gorgon's death stare makes them incredibly useful regardless of how many you've got.

Chaos Hydras- The best multi hex attack unit in the game, anyone?

Dragon Flies are very fast sweepers with the added benefit of being able to dispel any beneficial magic on their targets...

Basilisks? Do I really need to explain why these are useful?

And I'm not even a Fortress Advocate! :P

That said I'm not one to specialise in spells. I prefer using my hero to buff my units....

On an entirely different note, has anyone played Disciples 2? Horribly underrated game. Very similar to HoMM, except that individual units have to gain experience to advance. The battle system is greatly simplified, but its still a very fun game.

Hey, has the new GBA been discussed? It's half the size of a folded SP, and barely larger than the carts for it. Also, it has a better screen than the SP.

Yes, the GameboyAdvancePocket has been mentioned already, though not discussed at length, I believe.

It makes me wonder what they're going to do for the DS when it gets to mid-life and old age.
Then NintendoCompact! The NintendoGlasses!

Disciples 2? I have it, and expansions, but never seem to get around to beating the damn thing. I like playing as the undead. They may not be the strongest, but the ability to pull almost any status effect out of your arsenal from the jump is a real benefit.

..... The undead are insane. The spectral warriors ability to deal incredible damage AND paralyse is rather scary.... along with the DeathDragons (I think) ability to posion the whole enemy field...... Though the werewolfs immunity to anything bar spells is incredibly broken....

Fortress has some decent units... but so does EVERY town type. The stupid status effects are annoying from Fortress, I'll admit... and they do have good flying units, unlike Rampart and Tower... but any strength advantage that Hydras might have is offset by their godawful slow speed. They're one of the better siegers, if the opponent is depending on range, I'll admit that...

Titans (a RANGED 7th unit type?) are my favorite 7th... closely followed by Archangels (true ressurect, whoo!).

The lack of good spells DOES make a difference... particularly late game.

Gorgons are too slow. They die from my ranged attackers, and they don't ALWAYS get off that auto-death attack unless there's a lot of them. Basilisks are easily countered by Dispel, Cure, or simple immunity to petrification... and the speed of Dragonflies really doesn't make up for having a craptastic ranged unit.

It all depends on who you're hitting..... if the Gorgons are going down that easily then there obviously aren't enough of them :P Plus a decent Armourer skill makes life much easier.

That said, I only play Fortess when I'm bored and want a challenge. Personal preference is either Castle or Tower. Sometime Inferno (Teleporting Devils are so much fun....). But in all honesty you can't dismiss one team because they're all effective in their own way. It all depends on your play style, really.

I just said that Fortress doesn't get higher than a level 3 mage guild... :P

Castle Gates are nice, but Expert Town Portal is better! *shot* :P

All of the town types can be nasty in their own right, really...

Very much so.... the only thing that REALLY annoyed me on that game was that Necromancy only gave you basic skeletons.... which later on is an absoluter PITA...

Massive numbers of skeletons HURT.

And there's an artifact you can assemble from the necromancy-boosting items (boots, cloack, necklace) that gives you liches at Expert Necromancy... :D
