It's not, you can switch which way you're jumping.

But which version are you playing? If it's PS2 you can change directions with triangle.

So, I bought Ninja Gaiden for my brother's birthday, and having time to waste, I went to the Cube Demo station.

"Hm," I said. "Starfox Assault? I have heard bad things about this game."

I watched the trailer. And I think I will be able to survive the story mode for one purpose: multiplayer deathmatch, quite possibly THE greatest part of Starfox 64, is back. Man, I have some fond memories of playing with my bros and my coz.

And that was just a movie. I cycled through the demos, and found a playable demo of SFA. It was the orbital and aerial assaults on Fortuna, which I can only assume is the first mission.

Things I noticed:

1. Peppy has retired from the fighter squadron part of StarFox. And he's fat.
2. Kristal from Starfox Adventures has taken the old hare's place, and Peppy gives advice from the safety of the Great Fox, with ROB.
3. A new version of ROB 64.
4. Andrew of StarWolf fame is the first boss. Heehee...
5. He's flying a mecha-version of Andross's first form... <_<
6. "UNCLE ANDROSS!"
7. Oh, thank fuck. Slippy's voice actor isn't as annoying.

I think I'll ask for this game for Christmas... MULTIPLAYER!

I actually have it. And I'd say it's well worth it. Although, the game doesn't get much better than the first level (which you played), which was also why I wound up getting the game.

The problem most people have the assault is that there are far too many "on foot" missions, and the landmaster tank is really annoying. I loved the landmaster in '64, but it's a lot more annoying to use in this one. But hey, you can run over enemies with it, so it's all good.

Also, the deathmatch is great, but it's not as "good" as the '64 one, since it's got the annoying landmaster and one foot (note: all the best stuff is also when you're on foot. A single person with the right weapon can take out an armada of arwings). Of course, you can also jump out of your arwing right before you crash it into someone, which is totally awesome, so it's all good.

Most of the complaints were simply because sf64 was such a great game and this one's just not as good.

I'm wierd about controls. I'll probably be fine if they make some damned sense.

Do you have a jetpack on foot? Also, how many aerial missions ARE there? It looked to me like you had a wide range of vehicles on the ground, various different tanks... so, it's not ENTIRELY on foot...

nah, there's only one tank. Just the landmaster. There's also no submarine.

I got used to the controls pretty quickly.

And I honestly can't remember how many of the missions were entirely arial. The only ones I'm sure of are the very first and the very last. And I can't remember whether or not you get a jetpack. But then again, I havn't played it in like, half a year.

You initially start with only foot, Landmaster, and R-wing but you can unlock the Wolfen and the jetpack as well as an assortment of weapons. You gotta play a ton of multiplayer games to unlock everything so I just set it to 1 hit kill and bash some nonsense extra user(as new users and deleted users don't seem to count).

Finally got around to finishing Soul Blazer.
Whow. Great game. (of course, me being a cheesy ho', after having my ass kicked by deathtoll twice I leveled up another ten levels and tried again. It only took me about ten minutes, so no big deal, there).

I also got around to trying Clocktower for SNES.
...What annoying, clunky gameplay. I can't say I care for it. I'll probably give it another try sooner or later FZ... and yeah you were right, it is spooky.

One last question about StarFox Assault: Do Katt and Bill show up at some point? I mean, Andrew gives such cameos hope.

Oh yeah the controls are annoying as hell. It would have been much better as a PC Adventure game that lets you use a mouse. But personally, I think the atmosphere and spookiness make up for it.

It was ported to PC in Japan, FZ.
What's retardedness is that the game doesn't support the Snes mouse. I mean, seriously...OF ALL THE DAMN GAMES....

I dunno.... the lack of map system killed it a little, for me. However it was pre-Super Metroid, so...
That and the fact that you HAVE to find a safe room before barrows will go away. It doesn't matter how far away you run, if you don't find a proper spot to hide, he won't go away...

Do you know if the other Clock Tower games are any good, or better yet, better designed?

Don't have a clue about the others. I heard that the second one (The one for the PS) was decent from a friend of mine, and I believe it used a more Resident Evil style system. I don't know anything about the third one.

I heard the third was maybe not so hot. Thanks, though.

Nope, the only returning characters are members of the star wolf and star fox teams. And general pepper.

Also, the wolfen doesn't really count as another vehicle since it's really just a different looking arwing. And you never get to use it in single player.

OMG TEH STLEAING!

That being said, earthbound is pretty fun. It's still not as good as ff6 or CT, but it's still a great snes rpg. And it never seems like anyone has ever actually played it. They just know ness from SSB.

Also, starcraft: ghost looks totally bitchin awesome.
