In-struk-shuns?

I usually don't read them.

Maybe I should.

Always read them!

I only read them if I need to figure something out that wasn't intuitive.

Or if I get bored.

So... maybe not the same RTSes we're used to. But, Advanced Wars DS doesn't have 15 buttons, and NO CONTROLLER HAS FIFTEEN BUTTONS. The Revo is the best CONSOLE to attempt an RTS.

Pfeh. Ou doesn't need all those hotkeys, so your gripe is sort of moot. Sure, they HELP, but they apparently aren't INTEGRAL to the genre. Hell, I sorta remember them now, and I always forgot which troops were which hotkey...

Anyways, INTERVIEW

"Eurogamer: How is the controller going to work with games that aren't designed specifically for the Revolution - multi-platform titles and so on?

Jim Merrick: We're producing a classic-style expansion controller, based on traditional designs like the Gamecube controller. It's like a shell with a hole in the top into which you slot the freehand-style controller, and then you can play third-party ported games, and retro Nintendo games you've downloaded.

So there's that option - but even while it's inserted into the classic-style shell, the freehand controller will still be able to sense positioning and so on, so there are more options too.

It's something that's just as true for the DS - not every game uses the DS's unique features. But some multi-platform titles do, like The Sims 2 for example. We hope other developers will do the same and look at ways their multi-platform titles can make use of the Revolution's features. "

I figured they would *have* to have a standard controller add-on. I still think the wand business is an awful idea, but at least the system will be playable now, as long as you don't want to play any of the games that don't have another method of gameplay...

Nintendo's motto should be "We're gonna try it and damn the details!"

It sums up the DS, the bongo's for the Cube, and a lot of their business deals.

Hey... At least they have the balls to try something NEW instead of the thought process "Our system is BIGGER and STRONGER which always equals BETTER" of the other two.

That's their point. I love those of us gamers who cry out for innovation, and then when a big company (usually Nintendo) TRIES something new, we're there to tell them why their new invention sucks. Before anyone has even HELD one of the Revo wands.

... So that is why you do not play RTSes, ON A CONSOLE!

And Advance Wars is a Turn-Based Strategy, not a Real-Time Strategy!

For the love of all that is good, my head burns with pain and fury...

The addition of a REAL controller gives me hope however...

Well technically I don't need them. But now that I know they exist I'll be using them every time I play. The point of the gripe was that they won't be possible. Which sucks.

"And Advance Wars is a Turn-Based Strategy, not a Real-Time Strategy!"

Let's nitpick. <_<

Jerk.

Anywho. I'll pull out now, before I upset FZ again with my IGNORANCE.

Nitpick? That's like saying, "Oh, yeah, it'll play Final Fantasy 7 fine, but it it won't play Goldeneye very well."

They are two TOTALLY different core fundamentals. A TBS and RTS are no where NEAR the same game...

It's more like the difference between football and soccer. On you spend most of the time standing around with brief moments of action. The other is in constant motion with little time for thought.

Hey hey hey, shush! We're on the verge of bad namecalling here and I won't have it!

You can at least settle it with mud wrestling. Give the rest of us something to look forward to.

That analogy works as well...

Must unleash rage... On... A Real-Time Strategy game... Like X-Com... Because apparently they are all the same thing...

With Turn-based, you can use menus. All you need is one button and the d-pad to use menus.

With real-time, hotkeys are the crux of doing things fast enough to win.

It is NOT a nitpick. Not at ALL.

Well, I was TRYING to point out that the stylus worked very well for DS Wars. And the wand would appear to be more precise than the stylus.

That's ALL.

I'm-a go take a breather.

>PSST!<

Turning the wand on it's side makes it a more traditional controller.  Some games are going to use it for that.  And the NES part of the Virtual Console WILL utilize it.

Good enough.

It passes MV's test.

And actually, thanks for telling me that MFD, I like it alot better now that I know that.

Well, I thought it looked awesome. There's just so much potential there, waiting to be realized.

I think something everyone's forgetting is you won't really need to hold the controller out.... it's sensitive, so you can just hold it at rest and point, making small wrist movements to move.

I'm not entirely sure about this, though. That's just how I read it.

That was mentioned in 1UP's report, at least on for the Metroid Prime 2 "demo."

Frankly, I'm sure it will work fine, especially with the secondary controller. (Which sounds mightly like the old Dreamcast controllers, if I got it right. Nothing wrong with that, though.)

More then anything else, I'm just amused that Nintendo's continued to cause controversey with their three latest controller designs. I'll bet you a shiny nickel their next controller will be made of water.
