Okay, now it's beginning to sound a bit more reasonable.

Still silly, but reasonable.

It's just that characters with one number grossly larger then the other are, later in the game, at a pretty big disadvantage because all the enemies start nailing both numbers at the same time.

That's why you always stock up heavy on MP restoratives.

The fact that blackberries restore a solid 30% of your MP is almost broken. And you can refine that number higher. And mental enhancer restores 50%... and the base revive item restores 30% of both...

...it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

I think the most expensive spell is Sophia's ultimate, which is something like 600 MP. And you don't even GET that until after you beat the final boss... so yeah.

I think I remember reading aobut an SNES game called Paladin's Quest, which used HP for magic... seemed like a stupid thing to do.
There used to be an image here telling you to vote, but then Photobucket, the image site made to allow you to do third party hosting, no longer allows third party hosting without throwing a shitload of money at them... and I can barely afford to eat. So no you get some text of me bitching about it, yaaay! Also, go vote.

I have an om-ray of that, and yes, it's the worst system for magic EVER. Added to it is that magic is, like, the only real damage dealing thing you can do, and you find yourself dead a lot from a fire spell.

It was poop.

Some special techniques in SO3 cost HP, but that's nothing too new...

Although I killed Maria faster than the enemies would've by using Energy Burst on everything, heh. But with Healing being so cheap to use outside of battle... yeah, it didn't matter.

edit: See! There's always something that's worse! :P

even if the bars are as you say, I don't think I'm going to play that one anytime soon.

the idea of the enemy having two ways to kill me, one of which I help with is just unappealing to me, and the fact that this makes some boss fights easier is not a plus as far as I'm concerned.

Your decision. *shrug*

It makes the battles harder. Some people don't like that. Your choice.

it's not the making it harder part that I dislike, it's the fact that my playing style usually makes magic unnecessary, and so I feel like I would be having two health bars, either one of which could kill me, and that just seems obnxious to me.

The fact that enemies are victim to this too is not a plus to me because, as you said, some bosses will fall rather quickly if you start targetting the other health bar, and as far as I'm concerned bosses should be a challenge.

part of why I don't think that zombies should be bosses; one pheonix down and they're done for

Ah, the eleventh artifact. I hate you, Phendrana's Edge... so VERY much.

1. You're out of the way.

2. Your grapple points are so very awkward.

3. Stupid world... why is the secret door not at the very top? You make no sense!

Well, one more artifact, then I max out my ammo and health, then I'm off to go face Meta-Ridley. Have not died once in this run-through.

We'll see if I can survive Meta-Ridley and still say that.

from what I hear, meta-ridley is depressingly easy.

I never got to him because whenever I pick it up I play it for a few minutes and then remember why I hate most shooters, but from what I've heard if you haven't died yet you aren't likely to die now

Magic isn't required in SO3. At all. Healing is nice, but that's all I ever used, along with buff spells. Attack magic is quite cumbersome and not worth it in my book.

The enemies the enemies doing large amounts of MP damage doesn't happen until rather late in the game. I'm two dungeons from the end (although to be fair the last 'dungeon' is really three all lined up, and all are quite large), and I haven't had a major problem with MP deaths yet.

And I don't think that there are any undead at all in SO3, actually...

edit: Mostly the whole MP death thing is a giant target for people to whine about the game. And they do. Far more than the mechanic is actually worth.

... See, in MY family, we had our own separate files, and for games that didn't haveseparate files, but unlockable secrets, we all tried to unlock them.

I fail to see what the problem is.

[nitpick] Not family, just others in my building (co-op). I could keep my memory card to myself if I wanted but we'll get all the characters and costumes a lot faster this way. No one ever touches my rpg data.[/nitpick]

As for SO3, I stopped playing when I realized that I didn't like the item creation system. That and I got stuck in a rather annoying dungeon and didn't have the desire to go farther.

so... it's an extra health bar, and you can move it over to the normal health bar?

that's exactly what I said I disliked about the idea.

although, if those enemies don't show up until later, then that makes sense, as it gives you a chance to get used to the game before you have to manage two bars.

I might rent it, but I still don't think I'm going to buy it right off the bat.

I just don't like it that people say "Oh, I don't like this game mechanic that I haven't actually seen or played with. Therefore I HATE THIS GAME." MP deaths are annoying, yes. But it's just one game mechanic.

... and one thing to note is that it's a real-time battle system. More like an action game than an RPG; three party members, and you control one while the other two are AI. Although you can switch, it's usually more efficient just to stick to one.

There are a lot better reasons to dislike the game. I'm not gonna say it's the best one ever. But giving up on it entirely because of one battle game mechanic is stupid.

I didn't like it because I couldn't figure out the battle system. But then I didn't really try so yeah. I just like my games to be easy to begin.

Sometimes I stick to playing with Sophia to level her up. I'm better with her than the AI is that's for sure...

The battle system is tough to get used to, although I thought that the first dungeon was easy enough for practice, personally. It's definitely an easier game if you're good at action/fighting games.

edit: Which I'm not. And I didn't use Sophia. I didn't want to bother leveling her up...

the only recent action game I liked was KH, although, this may be a plus for SO, as KH is also the only action game I ever played which was also an RPG

Well, I got her 2P outfit, and thought she looked cute in a schoolgirl outfit XD.

I can understand that though, she did start at FRIKKEN LEVEL ONE!

*shoots*

I would love to use Adray, but his fighting style with his weapon is poo.

EDIT: I never played the first one either, they are about as connected as Final Fantasy.
