I have to sort of agree with you. I saw a good chunk of the beginning of the game (and although I say beginning, I was still rather far in...), and could barely sort the game from the shiney factor. I might take a glance at this if it's ever translated, although I have a feeling that it'll simply prove that the game wasn't a particularly good one.

I have no idea. I neither like nor dislike it, seeing as how I didn't get very far in, but the romantic plot was enough to make me roll my eyes so far back that I probably had that crazy-looking white-eyed gaze... |

So anyways, I was following links around that FFX Nes game and I stumbled up this: http://www.casual-fantasy.com/ If you'll scroll down, you'll see some korean/japanese online golf game with a picture of a girl that looks like it came right out of some mmorpg. O.o Edit: And despite not having the system or the game, people spoiler this stuff so much that I think I can safely say I don't like it. |

The romantic subplot was a bit overdone, but I felt mostly turned off by it because the romantic interest girl was packed so full of "desirable qualities", so much purity and goodness and sweetness and such that there was no room left for personality. Which, honestly, defines almost every Final Fantasy romantic interest ever. |

That's okay. She fit right in twith the rest of the One Note Personality trait cast. |

I dunno, Terra had a bit of personality to her. Probably because she happened to actually be the lead character as far as her game went. |

Which is why Final Fantasy VI is one of the best Final Fantasies. Now compare her to Aeris. Rydia. Garnet. Rosa. |

Terra and Celes were two of the very few female characters I've ever really liked... Yuna was... cookie-cutter. Or maybe I've watched too much anime. FFX as a whole seemed like it really wanted to be an anime with associated games, rather than a game with associated movies...

I meant the cast of FFX. The other final fantasy's were a lot better at balancing their characters personalities. |

I have never played a Squaresoft game, save for VI, that I wasn't cheering for the protagonist to fall in love for a DIFFERENT girl. Rooted for Rydia (the older one) in IV. Like 80% of people, rooting for Tifa in VII. Rooting for Quistis in VIII. Didn't care enough in IX. Rooted for Rikku in X. And rooted for Lucca in Chrono Trigger. EDIT: Better at balancing personalities? You mean like the total stereotypes of VIII? |

Yeah... Rosa was cookie cutter cleric. Rydia was starting to have plot developement, but then she had to go away for a long tme for um... quasi-plot developement? The characters in FF5, I don't even think they were given personality archtypes. Could just be the blandness of my translation. |

Most fo the cast of FFVIII wasn't that bad, they just didn't get any focus on them. It's Rinoa, Squall, Adel, Cid, and Ultimecia, the characters that got the most focus that failed in that regard. I thought Seifer and Irvine were quite intresting. |

I would have liked it more if the characters ever broke free of their stereotype for some character development. We have The Uncaring Antihero The Teacher The Punk Brawler The Hyper Girl The Romantic Interest The Cowboy and then, non-party The Mage (Edea) The Wise Old Man (Cid) The All-Powerful Antagonist (Ultimecia) The Rival (Seipher) And that is all the character that defines them throughout the entire story. |

I'd talk about FF7 and give a really good critique on the early portions of the game, but I'd get mob lynched(or so history tells me). |

No, you wouldn't. The early portions of the game were wonderful. It's the later parts that start to decay. In my opinion, that game died after they left Midgar.

Um... I'm not particularly fond of the characters motives and methods as far as that early part. I mean, their nothing but terrorists, just because the plot rationalizes their actions doesn't excuse their behavior. Edited to reduce redundancy. |
