When the government is ruled by the bad guys, sometimes a hero must become a villain in order to do what (s)he knows is right.

Actually, I saw a bit more to them than that. (well Some of them anyway.)

Seifer just wanted to be important. He needed to be somebody, and he didn't care what side of the line he was on to get his fame.

Irvine was a perverted cowboy that talked big and choaked under pressure.

Quistis knew she didn't quite fit in with the rest due to experience and mautrity, but really wanted to be one of the gang.

Zell... yeah, Zell was a bit of a cliche, but there were nice little bits they tossed in (that never realy got focused on), like the girl that had the hots for him, but he never seemed to notcie, as well as the fact that he wanted to be a soldier to follow in the family footsteps, and how he was the only oprhan to really get adopted.

If they had made Zell, or Irvine the lead, I think we would have ahd a much better game.

Every person is the hero of their own story. Every person believes that they are doing good.

Mostly I'm disgusted by the so-called "romance scene" aboard the Ragnarok. The supposed climax of the romantic plot for their special originally "love-centered" Final Fantasy.

hey, don't pick apart FF7 for terrorist actions.

What about Cecil's revolt against the King of Baron? Squall's people attacking other Gardens? Yuna's group overthrowing the dominate relgious belifes of their planet? Zidane kidnaping the Princess and leadign a group against the Queen?

Final Fantasy is full of corrupt organizations that the heroes rize to fight. Don't pick on FF7 just because it was more modern.

Avalanche was pretty much a more modern version of the Returners.

... And the Returners signed a peace treaty with the empire. Theres not even a comparison. Its a bad analogy. The returners were different.

How? The only reason they were able to sign a peace treaty was because the Empire brought them for the direct purpose of ending it all through peaceful methods. As opposed to Shinra, who blew up 1/8th of their city to obliterate them completely.

Dude. The returners were lead by Banin. He was a freaking pacifist healer. The two organizations just don't compare. I know full well the FF7 crew lacked the resources the FF6 crew had so they obviously couldn't use the same tactics. That doesn't excuse them from moral obligations, it just means they should have worked harder. At the very least, they could get a leader who was sane.

They also had different motives. The VI crew were fighting for peace for the people. The VII crew were trying to stop the government from destroying the planet. One of these motivations requires harsher tactics.

Are you trying to say Barret was insane? besides, by that point, the Empire still had a half way decent reputation when they signed the treaty. EVERYBODY knew Shinra was rotten. They just couldn't do anything about it.

Now you said they should try harder. Exactly what would you want them to do?

Requires? I don't think so. Certainly, it lends itself to harsher tactics, but I wouldn't say it neccessitates(sp?) them.

Alan, what your asking me for would require me to live in that world and aquire contacts and sources of info. I'm literally blind as far as the political currents of that world no? For gods sakes, its a world of magic and technology. Before I could do anything, I would have to adapt.

Well sending them a nice card politley asking them to stop isn't going to work.

Also consider what happened to Tifa's and Barret's home town. Shinra don't play nice. At least with the Empire, they could say that Kefka steped out of bounds. The Shinra's way of dealign with public problems was to kill all the witnesses.

I basically told you what I'd do. I'd gather more info. Pardon me if I don't want to make judgements based entirely on Cloud and Berrets perspectives on the situation. They arn't the clearest out there.

You think they were acting on ignorance? It's not a coincidence that they "just happened" to be right.

What more info do you need? The Shinra are killing the planet. Anybody that opposes them are snuffed out.

AVALANCHE had no resources. The political climate is, "Shinra runs everything. if you don't like it, tough."

They could sit around and do nothing, or they could fight. It wasn't like they had any other real options. You're saying that you don't have enough info is just a cheap cop-out.

You say you don't trust Cloud and Barret's judgement. They're the ones who've actually saw what Shinra is capable of. You're just a guy that's sitting in the safety of the other side of the screen afraid to get your hands dirty.

And like I said before, why are you singiling out FF7? What about the other games in the series? heck, what about Crono Trigger? Your team there barged right into plenty of completley foreign ploticial climates with no real knowledge of what was going on and worked against the ruling bodies of the time. Why is FF7 so special?

hey! How about Mario 2? Wart is the ruler of Dreamland and you're trying to over throw him. or the Castlevania series. You take control of a mere pesent and are trying to kill a noble Count.

Again, why is FF7 so bad?

In a word? Sephiroth. In more words? Everything relating to Sephiroth, and everything that happened after Shinra stopped being the bad guy.

I'd like some specifics. Seph certainly isn't my favorite villain but he's not the worst, by far.
