...Don't remind me of that abomination (Every FF made after FFVII, excluding FfIX)

I fixed your typo for you.

You missed another typo Alan.

9 was good. Even if you don't think it was better than 7, it was defintley better than 8.

Ok, its fixed now.

For the record, I *also* enjoyed the Junction system, but mostly just because it's easy to abuse. If you're any good at Triple Triad, you can net yourself 100 Flare before even leaving Garden for the first time. :^_^:

But one of my favorite magic systems has to be the FFII (The Dawn of Souls version, not the crappy original/Origins versions.) mainly because magic was SO powerful in that game.

Ultima XVI anyone?

The FF8 battle system wasn't the problem. It was the terrible, inconsistant, random plot in the second half. I ddin't even really mind Squall all that much, and I actually liked the laguna parts.

I'll give you that. For the first two disks, the plot was thrown together at best, and on the last two disks...just ugh.

The Laguna parts were awesome, though. And "The Man with the Machine Gun" is still one of my favorite battle themes.

I liked the materia cept the birthing stuff, allowing me to get everyone with a full master set.

The Junction was a good idea, but implimented badly.

6 and 9 are my fave FF games

10, 11, and what i have played of 12 are by far the worst

Squall was a bad Idea implimented badly

Laguna was a great idea that was underused

Edit : FYI in DQ 8 I have found a decent gold giving monster MMMM 718 per gold golem ahh my wallet thanks you all for dying horribly, and a very fun sidequest and well rewarding, the monster arena allows you to actually call your team of monsters during battle for three turns. Its very broken against some bosses/

Edit: Goldgolems ave been around forever, yo. No surprise there. Monster taming was around in DW/Q 6, also.

Today I picked up three PS1 games packaged together for $10:

- Shooter: Space Shot
- Shooter: Starfighter Sanvein
- Megaman X4

The first two are rather generic (read: coasters), but I figure MMX4 makes it worthwhile...

AMEN!

Not that, yanno, SquareEnix would use a good idea like that on the Final Fantasy series at this point. Or even if they did, pull it off successfully :P

It is my personal opinion that the involvement of guns was one mistake for Final Fantasy. That shatters realism beyond all recognition.

In an RPG, I like to imagine epic battle scenes to correspond with the dull battle cinematics, unless the game already has epic cinematics. I like to envision the sword clashing, dodging, grazing, hitting, etc. etc. all epicy. But...I mean, with a sword, an axe, any kind of melee weapon, you have grazes, hits, parries, dodges, all sorts of cool maneuvers you can do, and all manner of blows and grazes to correspond with the damage. That's much harder to do when the guy just shoots you in the face.

The same could be said about magic attacks, when the player ends up smiting an opponent from a distance without giving any chance to counter. And it's not like firearms have 100% accuracy either... :/

They do from melee range. :P If I am close enough to strike you with my longsword, and you STILL can't hit me with your shotgun, YOU SUCK and should not be a guard.

And magic still gives you a shot.

A gun battle can be just as epic as a sword battle, the real problem is that Final Fantasy has always been a series of second rate incredably boring games.

Kevlar armor, anyone? :P

Really though, I guess I see your point. Guns don't really suit FF very well.

I don't understand why people drool over gunblades, either.

"It's a gun and a sword combined!"
"Like a baronet?"
"No, it's a big sword blade, with a gun handle."
"...so what the heck does it shoot?"
"It doesn't shoot. It EXPLODES!!!"

...seriously....

It's not a gunblade. Guns shoot. It's a bomblade. Which is essentially a very strange version of a flaming sword. Which looks a lot cooler than a sword with a gun handle.

Why not just go with a fire sword?
