Again, I reiterate, when they say she starts with weapons, presumably they mean missiles and charged beams and morph ball, all of which would be redundant to recollect for the 100th time to me anyways. I mean, its logical that she's going to take each hunters primary weapon from them, or find them lying around or something right? Sheesh...

Edit: In other words you'd start with the same gear you'd get if you DIDN'T step into the elevator in Prime1, or you didn't step through the portal in Prime 2.

I just read a preview that also states that you start fully armed from the beginning.

Are you deaf? I'm arguing what constitutes "fully armed". Jesus farking christ on a pogo stick. Though, if you have any other reviews besides the 1up one feel free to share.

This game is not Metroid. This game is DOOM with a Metroid skin.

No, I take that back. Because DOOM at least involved finding new weapons. This thing doesn't deserve to call itself Metroid anything. Calling it Metroid Prime is an insult.

JP. The game is nearly finished. No one, anywhere, says anything at all about finding new equipment. They do say, specifically, that the game is about NOT finding new equipment.

... Yes they do.

At the very least, I KNOW you can get missile expansions. It only follows reason that the rest of your upgrades would be related to the various hunters, so they could reuse the same abilities.

Luppy, you clearly know absolutely nothing about Metroid. It is not, nor was it ever, an Action Shoot-em-Up.

JP, show me. Show me where it says anything about seeking out and finding new weapons and equipment.

Because it's not. Metroid is and has always been an Adventure game. It's always been about the exploration. Adventuring around this large world, finding new equipment to open new ways to go, boss fights with special tricks and/or vulnerabilities to beat them, finding your way around this place you've never been before and upgrading your abilities as you go along. The action has always been secondary to the adventure, because that's what Metroid is about.

If you just want to run around and shoot stuff, play DOOM. That's not what Metroid is about.

Terra, the quote that you mentioned doesn't specifically mention that there would be no upgrades. It means the usual stuff that Samus has to track down repeatedly is there from the beginning. And even a mediocre FPS has weapon upgrades of some sort, so I don't have much doubt that this will too. Though understandably, the ambiguity of the information around this close to release is a bit unsettling.

I'd be more worried about the lack of maze-like stages as far as aspects that distance it from what makes Metroid unique, since that's what was explicitly mentioned. You're right, it's not like Metroid games that came before it. But to say that it won't have any upgrades at all is a bit of a stretch.

I take it you never played any more modern First Person shooters...You Explore new enviroments, upgrading your weapons, blowing away a few enemies. Bosses normally have more tricks up their sleeve than "I have a gun, shoot me."

Both the action and adventure elements are there, but they are intertwined.

Once again, I say show me one sign that they have new weapons and upgradeable equipment. Show me even ONE example of a new weapon you can acquire or a new piece of equipment Samus can get. They always, ALWAYS like to get into that, "In one level you'll find such and such" at some point during the previewing stage. Now the game is near completion, there is absolutely no sign of any "such and such", and they're saying that you start out fully armed and exploration is being removed.

Do the math.

Then why did you describe it as doom? you have more than one gun in doom.

I just care that it's fun, thats all I ask...

You know what? I'd liken this setup more to Mega Man. Hell, add one more hunter and you even get the same enemy count^.^. But really think, the levels are segregated and theres a boss with a different weapon in each one. The levels are connected through an "interface"(i.e. the ship) and you can goto any one at any time^.^'.

Well, if it does turn out that there's absolutely no weapon upgrades in the game, then the folks at Nintendo have either lost their marbles, or just have absolutely no clue how to make a FPS. I guess I can see where you're coming from, and if it does turn out to be the case, the game will likely end up being shallow and crappy. I'm going to have to hold off on my judgement on it until after the game is released, however.

Eh, Hunters is probably gonna be fun...So I'll get it when it comes out, most likely.

The fun aspect is what you should be concerned with. Too many games companies are afraid to try new things because they know that purist fans of the series will bitch and moan about it not having X or Y. I say "Is it fun?", and if the answer is yes, then screw anything else.
